Have you ever looked at the navionics map of HMB: https://maps.garmin.com/en-US/marine?maps=another-brand&overlay=false&key=9q8vkb0zcyrv You should know where the danger zone is outside the jaws and to the west, popularly known as Mavericks.  It's very close to shore and entering that area without knowledge could easily end up in a disaster.  Most people head out in the direction of the buoys, which are there to guide boats around the problem areas.  You can find a lot of substructure out there if you study the map.
