Anyone brine frozen squid for bait? Was gonna brine some herring for tomorrow, thinking I might toss a couple squid in too.  I usually dye with liquid bluing. Feeling like it might be crazy or might be genius. Dunno, haha.    :dontknow:

This guys says it works.

In the past I’ve thrown some baits in a bag with salt that I use for brining smoked fish.

I read the article. I’ve been paying something like $10 per pound for fancy salt at the grocery store. I just went to a big box store and bought “pool salt” 40lb for $8. I’m trying a dry brine/salt cure on some freezer burned anchovies as we speak following those instructions. I’m interested to see what happens.

It isn't dumb if it works, right?

I just tossed some squid right in the brine with some herring. I use Sonny's recipe, or there abouts, approximately. It didn't take on nearly as much of the blue hue as thought it would.

Caught a nice chunky ~17" cabezon, a 27" ling, and a nice fat brown rockfish on my brined squid today. Not sure how my results compare to regular squid - I only brought brined squid. Really, was glad it worked, because I wanted to try a couple different baits, and didn't care to store them separately. All in one, and it worked out well today.
