Nice Eddie! I'd do a trip to Red Rock, with the right tides, haha. I was actually thinking from Point Molate that wouldn't be too far of a trip, couple miles each way maybe.  I've heard the striper fishing can get pretty exciting over there... On my Bay Area bucket list for sure.
I'll eat a striper...ikijime style...hope you whip in SB... :smt006

you had me for a second!

but the stroke, the glide, that is probably what I miss most about paddle kayaks.  On quiet breezeless mornings I'd see if I could glide along without any sound at all...total meditation

Santa Barbara is a bust - I got the 'ole bait n switch. Boss said Santa Barbara, and meant San Bernardino, haha.  Will only be there a couple days, then back up. Will see what the weather looks like next weekend, or maybe a weekday adventure the first week of March?

Stripers should be moving back down river any time now...

I find I get the best speed when my paddles goes in at my foot, and out by upper thigh.  Thats me, you may be getting better coaching.  My wife was an instructor years ago, and when I paddle near her, she is on my mistakes.

Good stuff.  I'm about that distance from catch to exit.  I love the idea of not wasting energy.  Paddling efficiently without wasting power is my standard philosophy but if I'm out of practice I end up forcing the blade on the pull and overextending on the exit.  This break in the weather is inspiring but it is only for a day.  Go Stealth or go home! :smt006

One of my work clients is a pretty well known paddling expert, and I was mumbling about learning to use my core instead of my arms. He says hey I have a kayak paddling machine, and I can give you a quick lesson. Anyway it was quite enlightening but after years of just using my arms it's hard to make the change.

That’s fun.  Yes, core is the stuff.  Learned that in the old martial arts classes transferable to paddling for sure.   :smt006

JT from CCK was into paddling form. What I learned in the basics was high angle blade stab, not slap, stroke close to boat using hip/core and combo push/pull, and avoid drag on the paddle exit, which was a little more vague.
I don’t get much paddling anymore and when I do the rods and stuff are usually in the way.

Look for Kayak Dan from Headwaters Kayak, he makes it look easy when he is demo's kayaks (youtube videos under "Headwaters Kayak". He does go down to the Kayak shop in Redwood City from time to time, so you may wish to reach out to him.
