Launched out of Beacon harbor at about 7:45 and drifted live minnows for the first couple of hours. Action was pretty slow for me with only two dink stripers caught. By 11:00 the wind started to pick up and I headed into the channel near the launch to drift the rest of my minnows. In the channel the LM bass bite was hot. My first fish went 4.5 pounds and then I followed up with approximately 5 fish in the 2-3 pound range with some aggressive baby bass hitting my bait occasionally too.

Overall it was pretty good fishing for LM bass, probably a bit early still for striper. Sorry no pictures, but a waterproof digital camera is on the list of things to buy.

Now I regret not going to Franks Tract.  I went to Del Valle only to get skunked.  Oh well, Still nice to be on the water.  Plus I met two other NCKA folks.  Maybe next time.
Good job with the LMB.

Fishing-jay

Did you catch the minnows yourself or did you purchase them? If you bought them where?

I bought the minnows at Gotcha bait, which is west of the highway when you take the Bethel Island/Oakley exit from the 4. A dozen xtra large minnows cost me about $8.

I've tubed it before, but have never yaked it yet. when the fish are there, or you find where they are, i've heard it can be non-stop action.
Thanks for the report!  hope to yak it in the fall/winter when the winds are lighter and the water temps are cooler.
