Since the swell sucked for the opener I thought I'd give Tomales a go.  Launched at Miller Park near Nick's Cove and was an easy paddle.  I went with a fellow fish guy from the local UC extension.  We made 2 nice jacksmelt and 6 walleye surfperch and headed for the zone.  Saw a guy boat a nice flatty soon after we got out.  The Joes bait got hit and spit, which killed one of our nice smelt.  Saw a couple of guys in an inflatable hit one next.  My bait finally got picked up, but another short strike and no love.  No takers on the perch.  Little to no wind,  fog turned to sun around 1:00. Nice place to yak fish, great scenery and light boat traffic, especially considering the weekend of 7/4.  I will definitely be returning. Next time with some kind of stinger hook!
