got one of those cabela's batteries, a hummingbird combo fishfinder/gps, four rod holders, a deck hatch and i want to be able to strap the rod to the starboard side.  need to find a place for the battery and somewhere good to place the fishfinder and transducer.

did i mention that the flir system is installed in the boat?  yeah, mil spec thermal imaging.  very cool stuff.  alan

Alan:

If you want to go Rhyno, I have one directly from jeff krieger himself that I have not yet installed anywhere.  Happy to pass it on to you.  Might be a good alternative with the short boat?

poor eric is getting his thread hijacked!   :smt005

so i was thinking of two rod holders placed where they are shown in the photo already.  i'd also like to have two more rod holders forward, somewhere low along the hull at waterline where they will not get in the way when i paddle.  i'm thinking of putting the hummingbird on a swing arm with the base connected somewhere, or bolted down between the tackle box and the hatch.  i'd like to be able to shimmy forward and stow fish in the hatch.  mainly i need help with the transducer installation, and a good place to stow the battery.

I have seen a lot of transducers smack in the center of the boat. it's nice to have them a bit out of the way.

this also allows the (in my case at least) heavy battery to be centered and as low as possible.

The Nav is a great little boat, and NOT part of the Explorer family.  Its actually a great little boat, but often overlooked.  EZ to rig and light, we have had them out in a variety of conditions and its always been a pleasant surprise.

The Pro E is a super beginner boat and very versatile, but you are past that phase.

I enjoyed paddling the P-13s in PV.  I have had a tough time rigging electronics on them, but nothing a 100 bucks in RAM mounts can't fix.

I appreciate all of your experienced advice on kayaks. I will probably be getting OK p15 with more mounting space, since the difference in weight is only 2lb with p13.

One thing I don't like about the Cobra's is that the fish measuring marks on the sides are wrong.  Well, at least the 12" mark is really ~11 1/2"!  The rest of the marks seem to be about right.   I think the Maurader has the same bad 12" marking.

Just picked up a Marauder, Brian. Unless I measured wrong, the 12" mark look accurate, but the 26" mark is off.

This is my Caper.  I fish the sierra alpine lakes & the Napa River..  It works just fine, but I do plan my fishing tactics ahead so as not to carry everything but a sink..  I troll then  drift with a sock or anchor w/a 3lb anchor..  They both fit into the front hatch & can be accessed easily..
