I reccognize some names on this page: http://www.californiamarinereserves.org/who.html

Scandalous!   :smt018
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

Let me get this straight, this "COOL" site is pushing marine reserves.

Kayak Connection holds the SC Derby to restock Salmon & Trout

yet also supports "COOL", so we can't fish for them?

Just trying to get the correct picture.

The biggest supporter of the MLPA is not even listed.  Its the Monterey Bay Aquarium (headed by Packard's daughter).

The MBA is sooo anti fishing.  Next time you are there, go sit in on some of the prezo's or read some of their literature.  They make it sound like man is making the ocean and the bay extict of fish.

BTW, the MBA is also one of the biggest supporters of the MB Trout and Salmon project.  Apparently they are all in favor of putting fish back, however they don't appear to support the take of fish by man.  I guess they are trying to keep the furbag population well fed.

The MBA is a well known, strong organization that really worries me as they have a lot of political influence ($$$$$).

Stuart,

Thanks for the enlightenment of the major contributor of the "COOL" organization.
Though I'm not as politically aware or active as I can or should be, I do my best to send the e-mails to the various senators as prompted by UPSAC and COASTSIDE.
What I don't understand is that Mark Pastik seems to be Pro fishing, yet KAYAK CONNECTION is listed as a supporter of "COOL".
Shouldn't we as a group be more concerned about what is going on?
I'm happy that our derby money is going to restore depleted stocks, BUT not if KAYAK CONNECTION is going to support marine closures.
Anyone have any info on this?

Elric,
Try googling: MLPA Packard Pew.

You will see how the Packard foundation and the Pew are the biggest supporters of the MLPA in CA.

Both orgs have contributed so much $$, that they now have a lot of political influence.  That's really a shame.

Packard = MBA.  (google Monterey Aquarium Packard).

I'm not sure about COOL or the small business listed.

All I know is that the Packard and Pew orgs are really strong and its pretty incestuous given all the money they have.  Their ties and money reach all sorts of groups and individuals.
