Sam and I were able to join Jewli0n and Sturgeon General for a quick Tahoe trip on Sat 8/5.

We arrived early and launched out of the Kiva beach area around 6am. After paddling out to ~120 fow the first Kokanee was in the kayak by 630. Limits for Jewli0n first and then me shortly after before 10. Sturgeon General had a limit a little after and Sam was having some problems getting the fish to the boat with 3 landed and at least 4 lost.

Kokanee were 60-70 down from 120-250 FOW. It seemed like they were hitting almost everything.

We then switched to Lake Trout. Sam hooked into 2. Lost 1 at the net and landed the second. No Lake Trout for the rest of us.

I did manage to get snagged while jigging for Lake Trout. After messing with it for awhile I got my lure free and noticed it felt funny on the way up. Somehow I managed to snag a lost jig and pile of fishing line!! Not sure what the odds are but it was pretty funny.

The amount of people at the lake due to the nice weather was insane. So many boats and people on the beach. There was barely any room to land the kayaks at the end of the day. I will be waiting until after Labor Day to go back.

Thinking of heading up there in a week or two. Where do you launch? Where do I park my Sequoia with a kayak trailer?

Damn that sounds like so much fun!  Good action and some nice fish!  I've only skunked on Tahoe  :smt005. Considered paying for a charter to get a mackinaw, of the 5 times I tried, skunk every time.  Sounds like Tahoe is still pretty popular, miss that blue water  :smt004

I’ve launched at Baldwin Beach, Kiva Beach, and Jameson Beach. This trip was launching at Kiva Beach via parking at the dead end of Tallac Rd. No room for a trailer there. With a small trailer you could probably park in the parking lot at the end of Heritage Way, it has some pull thru parking spots. I would not take a trailer to Baldwin beach, it gets crazy crowded in that parking lot. Same with Jameson Beach.

If you launch at the end of Heritage Way there is a short trail to the water that has maybe 3-4 stairs.

Al I have personally only done well with the macs when there is still snow around. Using a laser minnow or similar in 1-4 oz range.

Tahoe was packed when I was there 8/1-8/3. No yak with me.
Lester beach is another spot to launch from. Short distance to the parking lot and a very short paddle to some deep dropoffs.

Nice! Tahoe looks amazing, if not a little intimidating. I'd love to get out there before the kokes turn.

Funny, I've only ever caught macs on kokanee gear (Union Valley, not Tahoe).

Such a fun day out with you guys! I really love Tahoe, and definitely keen to go back with less crowds. That was crazy.
