I was in Sausalito on Sunday scouting for herring and I noticed that a dock that had been locked was open. I asked the person present and they said the Sausalito Community Boating Center (SCBC) just opened a NON-motorized Dock and launch for public use! There is a gate that is locked from sunset to sunrise. This is an ADA friendly launch as well, that look quite fancy. Once side had rollers and the other had a sinking basked type launch (my words, not sure the official term). It is right next to Dunphy parking lot and restrooms as well. I was very excited as launch from the "beach" area can be hard during lower tides. Their website is here (not much info on the new launch though)

Here are a few pictures of the new launch and dock (ignore the black box, that was a guy who wanted to play on his phone forever). Last picture is the view as you leave the dock, to give an idea of location:

Got a chance to try the launch out yesterday. Couple of things to note:
1. The gate when unlocked appears to be closed, but opens with a good push.
2. At negative tide the boat lunch is in the mud (as told to me by a club member).
3. I don't understand how to use the "cradle launch", but the "wheel launch" worked if you are helping someone out or if you are just launching your kayak without sitting in it (bring rope). Didn't work to have us both sit in the launch and try to go.

Here is a picture of my mom in the kayak on the wheel launch area. Worked great to push the kayak into the water. No getting wet and she was ready to go (but turned around to pick me up). Getting out of the water worked by hopping off the kayak at the dock and pulling the kayak from a bow tied rope.

That launch looks pretty slick!  Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the info. I’ve been launching from the beach there for a long time. Having a dock will be great!

Looks interesting and I’ll check it out. For my benefit, is there an advantage to this new boat launch over the public boat ramp nearby,  next to the joinery?

Yes, some of the big advantages are free parking (that isn't limited to 3 hours) and public restrooms. The other launch is between two fancy restaurants and everything is setup to make it difficult to use. This one is also exclusively for kayaks and smaller craft, so no having to wait in line with bigger boats. I never used that other ramp, opted to use the beach instead, which was also not great if it wasn't high tide. This launch is also setup to be more ADA compliant, my mom was able to use the launch without getting her feet wet or having to bend over onto an unstable platform. I know almost everyone here is physically fit, but, with my tandem, I often take less physically fit people out and it is nice to add to the list a location that has a launch that they will be able to use easily.

Free, but limited. Not a problem if you are arriving early. Except Sundays, they block most of the parking for a farmers market.
