Please see attached photo for all the details I have on the rod.
I will primarily be fishing on the Mendocino coast. Hopefully get up to Humboldt from time to time.
Your research did you well!  That's a pretty good combo for starting out fishing from a kayak, you can target just about everything from bait fish up to halibut, lingcod and rockfish.  From a Jetty it would work well too, but it might be a little short for casting from the beach where I prefer something a bit longer.  Maybe the advice was to not fish from your kayak right now, because the near shore rockfish season is closed? Otherwise you can certainly fish from the shore, or your kayak as long as the species is open to be fished for.  An easy way to tell is to look it up on this Map, click on the area you want to fish and it will show you what is Open and what is Closed (and why) https://wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean You will probably see Yellow under Rockfish/Lingcod/etc because they have a new and confusing schedule for that is determined by depth, which is why I say that Near Shore fishing for them is closed. DFG has a lot of information including this page on Beach Fishing that maybe you will find helpful: https://wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Beach-Fishing

Welcome! enjoy the fishing whether from shore or Kayak.  When you head out in the kayak, make sure you have all the safety gear and a buddy.
