Hi! Anyone have pics of a PVC rod holder I can throw on the back of my Hobie?

This should work on most Hobie kayaks.

How many rods are you trying to carry? I zip-tied three pieces of 1.5" abs black pipe to a milk crate. Plenty of storage for tackle and random odds/ends, and it is simple, easy, and cheap to make. Bungee it down to pad eyes and it stays secure enough. I don't troll with rods in those holders - it just carries them. I use either the flush mount holders or a Scotty mount for trolling.

I will take a good pic of my setup soon - probably fishing on Thursday or Friday.

In terms of carrying. I would like to hold at least another 2. And possibly troll with one, but I have a Scotty rod holder for that. So really just easy access when reaching behind me. Thanks for the pic!

Full pictures of my cockpit for freshwater. Basic milk crate, no lid, three ABS pipe rod holders zip-tied on. I used ABS because it is more UV stable than PVC, and I had the right size on hand.

I also use a Trader Joe's insulated shopping bag for my freshwater fish bag. It fits perfectly between my seat and the milk crate, is large enough for a limit of nice sized trout with frozen water bottles to keep everything cool. I installed some grommets on the bottom for drainage, and on the back at the top for the bungees to hold it right to my seat back.

For saltwater, I only carry a large fish bag behind the seat, and minimal gear under the seat. If crabbing, I throw the crab hoops right on top of the rear well, and will usually bungee a 3 gallon bucket to the bow to hold crabs.  The rear well is sized perfectly to place the hoops on top, then use a gaff and net or rod though the hoops and into the flush mount rod holders. Everything stays in place perfectly.

For rod holders, I have 4 flush mount, three on the milk crate, and one Scotty on the rail. For freshwater I use the Scotty rod holder in the picture, for saltwater I use the rocket launcher type.  I make sure that any nets or gaffs I buy can fit into the flush mount holders, just to keep them accessible but out of the way. I am considering another ABS rod holder forward near the pedal drive to hold a rod while I unhook a fish - probably using the track mount to hold it in place.

I have the Scotty holder and fish finder mounted on the left side, to keep the right side clear for landing fish. That grey box on the bow houses my fish finder battery, with an SAE connector for easy removal for charging.  My charger has that same connector too. A little dialectic grease and I've never had a corrosion problem.

For trolling, I use the flush mount rod holders and the Scotty mount.  I would say 75% of my fishing is trolling, 20% jigging for rockfish/ling cod, and 5% casting lures.

I am always trying out new/different things as far as cockpit layout, but this configuration works really well for me.

Crate + PVC + Zipties is all ya need for a vertical rod storage  :smt003 If you cut a the top off at a 45 degree diagonal, your reel will rotate when dropped in to face the direction of the cut.

I never thought to cut those at an angle. Gonna have to do that now!
