Even a simple BoyScout compass will help, because you can turn 90 degrees when you stop and look down. In SC, if there's any surf, you should hear it, and that will give you some idea where you are, also, the Mile Buoy groans, the Harbor and Steamer Lane lighthouses have horns.   But it's best to pick another day if you have that choice and it's super foggy.

I don't know one kind of lithium battery from another, but after I read about a New York City e-bike shop going up in flames (some claimed they were very careless), and especially, an increase in e-bike battery caused fires elsewhere in the city, I got this bag to hold my bike battery and several tool batteries - in a corner of the garage away from the living areas.  I can charge them while they are still closed in the bag, running the wire through a gap in the zipper, and put the charger on a timer so I don't forget and leave it plugged in.
I've never had any troubles with any of my batteries, but I now don't think my past practice of storing and charging them in my clothes closet was a very good idea.

You kept my interest to the very end of your tale.  I'm glad you survived to write it, you obviously have good boating skills.  But I think you were extremely lucky not to have been lost at sea without a trace.

The leg in the video:  He explained on the news tonight that he kicked and hit the shark in the head, maybe the eye, and then the shark turned away.  He also said it was very stupid of him to continue fishing.

I wrapped my gooey ones with Gorilla tape and it worked.  If I ever replace them, I might preventably tape them to keep them from going gooey.

I'm sure you're looking for guesses, so let me guess that whether you can trawl at all, and how and where, might depend on whether you're doing it commercially or for recreation.   And another guess: keyword "nets".
Some days, with the number of snags I got, it seemed I was trawling, not trolling.

If you have a filet slice with a fat end and a thin end, slice the skinny end off the skin and fold it up and toward the fat end and toothpick it in place. That way the slice has a more uniform thickness so it cooks to the same doneness all over.

Instant read thermometer (a real instant read, not a slow one) really helps to check doneness.

You can reduce clean-up effort if you are just cooking a piece or two by placing them on little pieces of foil, oiled first.

I had good results air frying halibut in a foil packet with some different kinds of oils along with herbs, green onions, etc.  Stays moist.

When you run out of fish, marinated tofu (firm) cubes cook well in the air fryer. Just about any spices snd sauces, but make sure they are coated in oil, soak 15 mins or more.

I had a small basket type air fryer and it worked well, but recently got a Cosori combo air fryer, toaster, baker, broiler combo that works better.  Its about 18" x 15" x 15".  I can bake stuff in without heating up the house like my gas oven does.

Happened to mine, got them in 2004.  Wrapped them with Gorilla tape and they have worked fine for another couple of years.

I'll bet the Coast Guard knows what it is, but I just got lost on their website(s).  "Notice to Mariners" might be a key phrase to use. Also, Long Marine Lab folks might know, or MBARI, the folks in the nice-looking building with marine exhibits near the Wharf/Dream Inn, maybe even SC Harbormaster might.  Or get close enough to read anything on it to give you a clue.

I just Gooped a platicized flexible sewing measuring tape to the gunwale - its been there for about 10 years. Make sure you clean yak and tape with denatured alcohol before Gooping.  And put the low numbers near you, higher numbers away - I'd always have to do the subtraction because I did the opposite.

Just brainstorming here: Could you splice a length of wider diameter rope to the end of what came with it, then run the wider rope through some more blocks, maybe just a change in the angle you'r pulling will help (or tie it to the back of your car (visions of pulling the ceiling down)!), or as mentioned above, add some mechanical advantage.

1 litre-size Fiji water bottle for 4-6 hrs on water in cool/cold SC.  The bottle is square, so it didn't roll around so much and it fit in the bottle holder on my kayak.  I'm cheap, so I just refilled it, and got a new one when to come back from HI.
