General Talk / Re: Live wells
« on: July 23, 2016, 03:48:28 PM »
The problem with a bait tube is that you have to keep it in the water the entire time. BTDT with several different designs.
The Frabill can be taken out of the water and set in the tank well when you have to make a long haul. Just dip it every now and then to refresh the water. Plus the spring loaded access means you just reach in and grab what you need. No unscrewing then screwing anything back on.
Also, the water doesn't drain out every time you need a new bait adding stress to your bait.

IMO the bait tube it a total PITA!

I like this idea or add a 6volt pump with a plastic surgical tube going inside the bucket. When you want to move hook the tube to the pump put it In with you and when you ready to anchor just drop the bucket to the side. Pump is only needed when on the move so don't have to worry about killing the battery. Worst comes to worst and your batteries died then you can keep it in and ot of the water
To keep em fresh

Exciting to see them cought! gets me all pumped and wanting to go fish for em! Thanks for sharing

Jonasoi510, remember that the smelt brokeback plugs tend to catch seagulls if you're not careful. Trying to unhook one of those feathered idiots is a real shit show, I'll tell ya.

Yeah hooked one with a rattle trap once. Dam seagull grabbed it the minute it hit the water. It was fun until I had to unhook the dam thing. Thanks for the heads up. Appreciated! Gonedquatching

If you're in the area this weekend and need a partner, PM me otherwise I'll be chasing salmon towards Sacramento.  I live about 5 mins from Hill Slough.

Sounds good I'll keep you posted.

I live in Fairfield.  if you want company, let me know the next time you fish the sloughs.
Thanks for the report!

Thinking about heading out there this weekend again, trying to be in the water by 6am this time. If I don't work I will let you know,

Thanks for the report! Which way did you paddle on hill slough? Probably toward suisun and right around dead man's island, I've always had pretty good luck over there, and it's a short paddle from my house.
in say say dead mans island, from how it was right in the middle and and just moved around ever hour so, ten drifted back with anchovy but no luck .  Maybe this weekend if I don't work. Ill keep you posted.

Time to get familiar with it! Don't forget safety first! Enjoy

Awesome!  Where did you launch at?  Beldans landing?

I lunched off of  hills slaugh right at the overpass of grizzly island Rd

Have you tried plugging or plastic worm fishing for striper? I caught a few on broke-back rapalas in the smelt color, and I heard you can use plastic Sandworms with good results. Using anchovies is tried and true, but there's just something really exciting about catching striper with modified Largemouth tactics.

Tried anchovy, squid ? Chicken liver and  large shrimp. Tried some rattle trapping and jigging. No luck on that . Only anchovy was extremely active biting.  Some bites off chicken lover. I'll try plugging and the wax work next time thanks for the tip

Introductions / Re: Anyone out at ARW tomorrow?
« on: July 16, 2016, 09:58:54 AM »
I am also going to try ARW for the first time soon, but not tomorrow. Will look forward to your report on the presence of bait balls in the area, also wind report. May also launch from Oyster Point a day after ARW.

I Zod Out

Was too windy to go out in the morning. Tied was early too. Felt like a hit or miss. Going to give it a shot tomorrow again. Hopefully is less windy pm me if you go I'll tag with you. And as for he bait balls they are there, even off shore people are catching smelt, mackerel, seen pelican diving in for the action as well. That's what I've seen these last couple weeks. Also some kayakers out there with good shaker stories, haven't seen anyone pull in anything my self. But from others that frequent that spot have told me they've seen people pulling in keeper halibut recently. Off shore I've cought nothing but shark and a couple stingray. Some smelt

Hi to all   :smt006 name is Jonathan you can call me jona or J for short.  Been fishing most of my life out in the San Pablo bay. (I'm sure I've missed a lot of good fishing spots out of the bay) From carquinez to Hercules and Vallejo. Have gone on some charter boats and now finally can go out to the water with the kayak. Been looking around this forum and finally decided it was time to join. Everyone always being friendly around here and I could really use some kayak fishing friends. Been kayaking for about 2 months now. Gone out to practice and get associated with my kayak. So far only one striper and nothing else off it.just happy to own a yak and to fish off it.
