I broke the idler cable yesterday on my early (2016) GT drive.  It looks to me like it's the same size cable as the "classic" V2 idler cable.  That is the same cable fits the both drives.

The only size difference in idler cables seems to be between V1 and V2 drives.

Can anyone verify for me that the idler cable for the V2 and the early GT drives are the same?  ... before I plink down some $$ online?  :smt044

-- as an aside, I really like the thread about the bungee cable temporary fix   :smt003   I'd try that for a temporary fix except I have two spare V2 drives.

I had both the V2 and GT and believe they were identical also.  Since you have two backup V2, you could always take the idler cable off temporarily to confirm that it fits.  As the GT drives continue to get phased out, it is going to become harder to find parts.  It's a good thing that many of the knock drives are nearly identical for part replacement purposes.

Thanks! -- yeah .. I thought about taking them off one drive for the other.  I might if I have trouble getting the part.   thanks again.

Ditto that. I’ve been using the bungee exclusively for 2 seasons without a problem. I’ll never pay for another idler cable…

The more I look online the more attractive the bungee fix seems.  So many places list it as not available, currently on backorder.  I may swap out a cable from one of my V2 drives and put the bungee fix on the older, not often used V2.

I see 3/16” shock cord, available at Englund Marine near me.  That should do it. I think I'm going to give that a try.  --  :smt004

I literally just used a bungee. Probably about 3/16 or so. Cut the hooks off and got lucky with the length. I used a heat gun to melt the ends a little to make easier to pass through the hole, but I still had to use pliers to get it through and pulled tight. It has a little give now, but functions perfectly.

Well that was certainly easy.

Ordered a cable from my local Hobie dealer.  He said he had 10 on back order already.  I'd get one of those when they came in, but he had no idea how long that would take.  (great)   While I was out, I grabbed three feet of 3/16" shock cord from the local Englund Marine supply.  Cost me a buck.

When I got home I swapped out the cable from one of my "spare" drives, and then put the "temporary bungee fix" on the spare.  Easy as pie.  Now I'm curious so next time I'm at the lagoon I'm taking the bungee fixed drive along to see how it performs.

Thanks!  :smt006

Those are turbo fins on the one drive on the right.  I broke the idler cable on my one drive with turbos.  :smt004
