Cool pics Craig. I was watching it through a pin-hole doodad, looked up and noticed this on my fence.

Amazing and beautiful, Alfredo. What was the sunlight being filtered through that created that effect?

Never thought about fishing for sturgeon on a kayak, but it looks fun. Is it dangerous though?

More dangerous for the sturgeon if done right.

I think that's a fantastic idea. I have a few books about the sea that are my personal favorites but not all that well known: Sharks Are Caught At Night by F. Poli; California Currents and Neptune's Apprentice by Marie De Santis; Stalking The Blue-Eyed Scallop by Euell Gibbons.

A brief description/review would be a great addition as someone suggested earlier in the thread.

Am I mistaken or is this thread about over-moderation by the moderators who should show some moderation in their moderating?

I believe I recognize that paddling technique. I call it "shove away from the rock before the next swell drops you down on it."

Ocean Beach strikes me as an "opportunistic" launch site, not a "planned" one. That is: if you happen past it and live nearby and notice that the surf is flat and you have time to fish, then launch; but if you're planning a week ahead to kayak fish with your friends, then Ocean Beach is probably not the best meeting place.

Nothing wrong with being proud of your family when they accomplish something. Good for your nephew and his crew.

I love this topic. I threw my new kayak in at Rockaway Beach in Pacifica on a flat and calm day about 18 hours after I bought it. I paddled out of the cove and immediately realized I didn't know what I was doing. My sabiki was hooked into the back pack at the rear of my kayak as well as my PFD. To make matters worse the sight of those 1 to 2 foot swells coming at me made me nervous. 45 minutes after I launched I hit the beach again only to have a shore fisherman say, "That was quick. What happened...you couldn't make bait?"

General Talk / Re: Do you hate Towing Company?
« on: July 29, 2009, 07:41:33 PM »
A friend of mine was driving a CA registered car when it was towed in New York. The tow company wouldn't release his vehicle without a copy of the registration (which he kept in his glove compartment). They let him go to his car to retrieve it but guess what: the registration was missing. He ended up having to deal with the CA DMV over the phone and getting another copy sent to him via express mail before he could get his car out. Final cost included towing, 3 days storage, and CA DMV "above and beyond the call of duty" services.

The lessons learned: Always make multiple copies of your registration (the document itself says that a facsimile is acceptable); keep one at home and another in your car; and if you're travelling far away from home keep a third copy in your pocket.

It's probably just a dirt stain that ran down because of damp weather.

In fact, now that I look again, the line that would serve as the left hand side of a "U" runs all the way up to the word, "California," printed on the plate. That would not be the case if it were actually part of the letter.

I hope this helps.

We got 5ZQU122. That came back as the Cadillac

We tried 5ZQO122 and that came back as not a registered plate, unprinted, never used.

Ill play with photoshop later, maybe I can clean it up a little

It looks like "5ZQJ" to me, not "U." The vertical line that looks like the left hand part of the "U" is too close to the "Q" to be part of the following letter on a license plate. It's probably just a dirt stain that ran down because of damp weather.

The bad news is that there won't be any trout planted at Stevens Creek Reservoir.

Anyone know how to effectively incorporate fishing into Valentine's Day w/o securing the demise of the relationship? :smt102

Yea...date a sea lion.

California currents : an exploration of the ocean's pleasures, mysteries, and dilemmas / Marie De Santis

This is a good, smart book by a woman who has a lot of fishing experience. It's out of print and kind of pricey to buy used (around $50) but it is available at the San Jose Public Library.
