The mouth normally has a ripping current, I normally just avoid that area unless I get lucky and there's not much tide change

2
Awesome.  Where did you launch and where did you drop traps?

Launched out of lawsons landing and set the trap in the channel near the mouth of the bay on the east side of the channel

Great dinner too

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Tomales bay crabbing
« on: January 27, 2019, 04:57:37 PM »
Insanely beautiful weather in the bay, water was like being on a lake in the sierras, even the current on the outgoing tide was gentle and calm. Spent several hours just floating around enjoying the weather and playful seals.

As for the crab, it was surreal. Every pot came up with mostly Dungeness crab. Most were bigger than the scale. Ending the trip with 7 males on Saturday and 6 males today from a single pot using mackerel and sardines for bait.

All in all a perfect weekend.

Picked up this beautiful barge a couple days ago for 275.00 ordered 65 dollars worth of parts from Amazon. Plan to add two hatches headlights power system for fish finder, USB ports for charging cellphones and a paddle clip. Apparently this 500 dollar kayak comes with absolutely nothing. It's highly maneuverable as in like trying to paddle a jon boat. But it feels insanely stable. Looking forward to seeing how it handles big blue this weekend.

Yeah I fish it all! Tomales bay is one of my favorite places to go and just hangout, a little crab fishing and enjoying a cold beer on the beach.  Going Saturday

To get that fiberglass seam on the inside use a painter's pole with a roller on it, and then hit the front and back through the hatches. Highly recommend a full face respirator otherwise your eyes will be burning

No kit, I designed the kayak with some free software I found online. I'm a professional tradesman (build high end custom homes) so lumber was free. I'll buy epoxy and fiberglass and also hatches and such. So I built the forms and milled the strips myself from scrap lumber. So far I have about 8 hours in it and haven't spent a dime.

Seriously in need of a shed...
