Late start but amazing conditions out on the Bay.  Crystal clear water.  Only went a quarter mile or so outside the kelp and there are so many fish.  Caught 4 ~20 inch ling, and almost brought in a brute that somehow let go at the surface.  Lots of rockfish out there too.  Went into the kelp outside lighthouse field and caught my first cabazon!!!  Watched it strike the water is so clear...17 inches of pig...amazing fish.  Everybody went back in the water.  Beautiful day.

That's awesome!  Thanks Jim, first time I experienced a ling holing itself ...brought it up slow for maybe ten cranks after I set the hook and drag...then it took line like a halibut twice, I was thumbing the spool to slow it a bit more but then felt the most odd wiggling/ head shaking?  I assume it was the punk jamming itself into a crack.  Broke it off after paddling in circles. Good stuff...lots of fun.

Thanks too!  Biggest rockfish I've ever seen/caught...so fun, I thought had a ling...fought like a beast...best to you buddy.  Kind regards and respect.

Yeah mon!  Mitchell's is easy...the waves slow down quite a bit at north end of the cove, there's a series of defeated jetties that make a nice mello pocket to pull the kayak in and hop onboard.  Watch out for getting slapped around by any reflected wash.  Beach launch is all about timing anyways.  The beach has flattened out for winter now too so that helps clear the summer kelp nonsense which can make launch and return interesting during the summer.

Early out of Mitchell's .  630...straight out ~2 miles...big something (ling?) took line heavy and fast twice and holed itself...spent 30 mins paddling in every direction...should have waited longer to see if the creature would have come out...went into the kelp at natural bridges and caught a 21" black rockfish...good day.  Glassy afternoon.

Good looking fish.

Was it really bare-legged weather? I keep seeing "small craft advisory" when I check the weather report.

Yes it was .  Nice red, I was the one in the red hobie.  After the Dfw checked us it went crazy for me in 50 ft of water right outside of you.   Every bait got wacked.  Got 5 real nice cod and a fat ass ling as well.  Had a couple brutes either snap my line or run and got stuck in a hole.  Dam the ocean was alive today, more action going on than you could shake a stick at...

That's awesome!  What kind of bait were you using Jerry?  I haven't strayed from using my b2 squids and have luck off and on...stoked to hear you were slayin em!

I have a Mars ocean kayak.  My paddle was black...not sure why someone would have thought it was free. Given it was placed well within my driveway...next to the hose...and it was wet...anyways.  I was hoping to spend 50 bucks...thanks for all the offers so far!

For Sale / kayak paddle disappeared
« on: November 02, 2013, 09:39:54 AM »
So I finished rinsing off my kayak about a week ago and i left the paddle up against the fence in the driveway, next to the hose. I rolled my kayak down the driveway ...and must have spent to long putting my gear away ...maybe someone thought it was a free paddle or something cause they took it even though it was wet. Anyone have a none bank breaking (but solid) paddle for sale?  Thanks!  -Tyler
