I am not sure where this should  be posted but I wanted to share my experience  about the kayak fishing clinic hosted at Claveys in Petaluma today 4-7-18
Every one in attendance was given a bag with useful websites for kayak fishing, up to date DFG reg. books and a swim bait for rockfishing
I am always open to learn new things and today paid off. I took my wife who loves to fish but does not get out with me fishing as often as she likes and she had a lot of fun.
I was very happy to meet Craig or better known as Ravensblack.
He was very knowledgeable and did a great job engaging the group and answering a wide range of questions.
I am sorry I don't remember the names of the other instructors that were there also since they all shared a wealth of information
Thanks to all for a great day

For Sale / Selling my sons Tarpon SOLD
« on: July 16, 2017, 02:42:06 PM »
I am selling my sons tarpon 120. Has been garage kept its entire life. Since it was a kids kayak it has seen very little use. All straps and bungees are in great working condition.  High price for the Craig's list flakes but will make a NCKA member special price for $500.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Shopping for a paddle
« on: September 04, 2010, 08:32:36 PM »
Hello everyone and thank you for any advise you care to give.

I have been using a 215cm carlisle Day tripper for over 15yrs now and I am looking for a new paddle that is not aluminum and weighs less then the 5lbs my old one seems like. My other need is for it to be less then maybe $150
I have done some shopping at local shops and have been told a 230 or 240 would be a good fit but I have not used one of that size yet so here I am to ask the guys that have :-)
MY details are that I am 6'2 and my Big game Kayak is 34" wide and I mainly fish small lakes or nearshore kelp beds and such, So a paddle for a 20 mile day is not a necessity

Thanks again
Matt

General Talk / Kayak Carrier for a Lumber Rack
« on: March 17, 2009, 08:07:40 PM »
I just purchased a Rack-It brand lumber rack and am needing some advice on what type of kayak carrier I can get that can go right on the lumber rack.  I don't need the whole rack system and don't what the Yakima rail system.  I really just want the saddles that I can bolt to the lumber rack.  I would appreciate any advice and suggestions anyone may have.

Thank you,
Matt

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / trying sturgeon
« on: January 26, 2009, 09:07:41 PM »
Hello board
My name is Matt.  My wife Marni and I would like to try sturgeon fishing from our kayaks.  We have abalone dove, rockfished and crabbed from them but now after having good luck for sturgeon on our bigger boat we want to try the kayaks in San Pablo bay.  Some questions I have is do you anchor from the front and fish facing into the tide or from the stern and face away as is done in a large boat?  Also, I am buying a Garmin FF and need to know if a in-hull transducer will work or mount a transom style outside like a bigger boat.
Thanks for any info and I am sure there will be lots more questions later.
Matt
