General Talk / Re: Where is the hook up section

Actually if you go to the "Kayak fishing zone" just below the "News" section and expand it you will find the "Hook ups and fishing reports".

Good question, it's not easy to find so I just find any hookup and fishing report and work backwards to find the rest of them.

Thanks everyone for the positivity, I'm often reluctant to post fishing reports with no fish but many of the "no fish" fishing reports I've read have been helpful to me so sharing the skunk.  :smt006

Time OTW priceless  :smt044 along with the smells of aromatic pines

just looked it up Spilt milt productions…. Worth checking out!

Hey Sledge great to see you so active again on NCKA and your right the pines and clean air were smelling extra good. Also thanks for the Spilt Milt recommendations, been watching a bunch of dudes videos.

Tsuri, Don't get discouraged. Bullards Bar can be tough fishing this time of year. They are starting to stack up, head up the Yuba River arm and are 100+ feet deep. If you're looking for a little redemption, a few of us are headed to Sly Creek this Saturday. The fishing there is far superior than BB in both size and quality. Much more kayak friendly lake too. Hardly any boat traffic or lake lice.
Kevin

Right on Kevin good information, you're for sure one of those Kokanee guys I want to tag along with and Sly Creek does sound like a step up despite the extra driving time.

Sadly this weekend is my wife's birthday and I may have other obligations....then again she might prefer if I went out of town?  :smt003

Looking forward to continue to figure out how to angle these tricky little Salmon.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Tahoe 8/24 8/25

However no fish were harmed in the making of this report.

Back at the launch a little after 4 powerboater heading out to fish said waning moon, zooplankton not active certain times and that the good bite was around 7:30 that morning.
Storm changed Saturdays plan but learned a lot about a different kind of gear and figure I'm just going to have to tag along with some of you Kokanee guys at some point when it cools down.

The rest of the drive to Truckee was very scenic and no traffic!  :smt001

So storm moved in for Saturday ended up taking the long road to Truckee up 49 on Friday, figured I'd have a quick visit with my friend in Sierra City and scope out this Bullards Bar spot. Timing wasn't great arriving mid day and trying out gear I've never used for a species I've never targeted......Kokanee.

Running a long noodle rod, conventional line counter reel and 10# mono I trolled an unbaited wedding ring (missed picking up corn in Yuba City) behind a dodger with a 3oz clip on weight at .8 to 1.2 knots 80' to 100' deep for about 4 hours. Surface temperature was just about 78° but I had hoped the incoming storm and clouds would still make it happen.

General Talk / Re: Epic kayak?
« on: August 26, 2024, 05:20:45 PM »
Yeah those Epics look nice, I like the older ones that have cleaner lines the new ones are kinda weird looking. Perhaps an older one with an out rigger?

But your near Linda Mar.....You should just GET A STEALTH!  :smt001

Even with my older Stealth "surf ski"  loaded with a bunch of stuff it's really fun to paddle in, catch ferry wakes or offshore swell and cover ground quickly with little effort by just paddling to keep up.

Thanks for the Epic report!

I would join you - I’ve never fished Tahoe - but I’m headed to SD next weekend. I’m gonna try a few hours on a rental yak at La Jolla.

Shucks, well scope that spot out I want to go there as well!

Heading up to a buddy's place in Truckee  for the weekend, thinking of an early morning Mackinaw hunt in Carnelian Bay either East along the 50' drop off or South west towards Dollar Point on the ledges deep trolling or jigging.

Anyone fish this area with any recent reports or or have any tips to share, already did much "research" on YouTube.

I suspect I need to fish early morning or evening and/or deep to make this happen. Might change venue or target species dependent on conditions.

Thanks for the report Eric, granola and unsweetened yogurt for me please!

General Talk / Re: Conditions at Half Moon Bay on Saturday
« on: August 18, 2024, 10:13:08 AM »
I'm a big fan of keep it simple, paddle kayaks don't have those sorts of issues although you can still forget you paddle. Doesn't sound fun but thanks for the report!  :smt006

How were the conditions?

Been thinking about getting out to that same area for the first time myself, thanks for the report!

Looks like your top speed was over 21MPH....🙂

Wanted To Buy / Re: WTB Shark Shield Freedom 7

I'm looking to get one since Im going back to kayak. I remember just like yesterday I had 3. No in need 1. Please let me know if you have one. Thank you.

Actually when I noticed that the shark shields were no longer available a couple months ago I remember you saying you had several of these and almost reached out to see if you would part with one.

Welcome back to kayak fishing, see you on the water!  :smt006

I think you got it right, Saturdays conditions look really good at the moment. Be sure to check again the night before you go and also you can check the NOAA Marine Point Forecast for HMB as well.

https://marine.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=37.65&lon=-122.36

This tends to show more of of a pessimistic view of the conditions compared to Windy. I like to check them both sometimes they don't agree on what the future will bring.

Have fun and post a report if you go!

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Bolinas 8/9

Good stuff thanks for the report!

Reminds me of a time or two I got out there after salmon....so much activity with the whales, threshers and other large sea life popping up all around.

Would be nice to harvest and tray up some anchovies but likely after the effort to get there it would be hard to focus on getting bait.

I have Muir shore fishing report but it's from about 40 years ago.🙂

Never got much from the beach but didn't have much beach experience at the time. I was able to get perch and sometimes small rockfish and greening casting from the rocks to the south.
