Hobie Kayaks / Re: Anyone else in the market for an AI?

I'm going to get one as soon I'm too old to paddle to the Dux buoy. It's getting tough, but I think I got another couple years in me.

Thanks Sharky!  It's hard to find good intel. I guess if the fish were close and weather was good, there would be posts here about it. Do you know of any places to try on Tuesday?

Salmon are all over the place according to the Coastside reports, but getting early limits from Pigeon Point near the beach on Sunday. I have never launched from Pigeon Point, but it looks like there is a sandy beach and people do. The waves and wind look favorable, the "patchy fog" looks questionable. The bite is hot with people getting limits by 9 am.   I want to catch some before they all get caught.  Any one available?  I'm calling in to work with a "sick kid".  :smt003  -Gabe

Way to go! Where did you catch your fish?  I might call in sick Tuesday...

Wish I could make it with everyone else on Saturday at Moss, but my window is Sunday. I'm driving from Berkeley, so I could do North or South.  Some people are launching from Doran Sunday, but maybe Moss is fishing better?  Or Santa Cruz possibly....   Anyone thinking of Sunday instead?

Is this trip kid friendly for a five year old? I was thinking of bringing my daughter, she loves to get dirty.  I was thinking she could sit in my lap for the paddle to the clam beds, if it's not too far.  Is there likely to still be room for us to pitch a tent Sunday night?  Thanks. Gabe and Samara :smt003

So, I'm bringing my four year old on his first fishing/kayaking voyage. I was thinking of San Pablo Dam or Laffayette Res.  I haven't had any luck in a yak there before, any tips would be appreciated. Lures? Depth to troll? good spots to try? Thanks, and of course, company welcome!  I was thinking of getting on the water around 8:30 or 9, but my son may not have patience for a long time on the water. Catching a fish on his first trip would be super. -Gabe

I'll be there with my dad in my double, and my friend Paul will join us as well.  My pops just turned 76 yesterday. I hope I'm still catching fish in my yak when I'm his age.  However, trying to get him out of the house for meeting at 7 a.m. might be a bit difficult, but I'll do my best.

I'm going for sure, just stacked up on tray bait. I'm thinking of launching between 7:30 and 8:00, but flexible if anyone can join. Andy, it would be great to hook up with you. I hear they are catching big ones.  Gabe

I was thinking of heading to duxbery, though I don't exactly remember where it is.   I was at Muir and Stinson beach on Wed (taking foster kids to the beach) and there were a lot of boats fishing pretty close to shore. Anybody up for it? Anybody got a map showing where the duxbery buoy is?  It's been a few years since I landed a salmon....   Gabekap

I  fly fished at Watt Ave today (Thursday) for a couple hours and landed 6 shad, below the bridge (wading from shore). Have fun.

I'm thinking of fishing Monterey Bay this weekend. I called a charter boat company today and they said the fish were near shore in the bay and holding in 40 to 50 feet of water. The catch has been hit and miss, his boat only landed 6 keepers today, with about a dozen shakers thrown back. Yesterday was quite a bit better.  I think the fish are too deep at Moss to fish for easily in a yak.   Gabe

Hey Gabe, your water was what I was hoping for on my side of the bay. Just curious to know if you trolled bait or lures over there?. That area is some of my favorite striper hunting grounds and was thinkin shoulda woulda coulda. Great report. Oh yeah, define the middle of the bay?

I was trolling a rattle trap. Usually if there are any stripers around there, that does the trick for me. I had no bait, so for halibut, I tied on a deep six to get to the bottom and then tied on a rapala looking thing (I think the brand is Yakuzi or something like that, it imitates a swimming anchovie).  The powerboats were not really in the middle of the bay, but if you are on the middle of the San Rafael Bridge, looking towards Oakland, they were about a half mile or mile past the rock island, next to the bridge.

I launched near San Quentin about 9 am. trolled around for stripers for a couple hours, moving along the bridge, the Marin Rod and Gun Club pier, etc. Nothing. Talked to a power boat that had landed a couple halibut, and switched over to trolling for halibut. Nothing but a sun tan for all the work, but it was a beautiful morning. Flat water, almost no wind. On the way back over the San Rafael bridge, I noticed at least 50 power boats all fishing close together out in the middle of the bay. Looked like they had located a school of salmon, but that doesn't seem likely. Any ideas what they were catching? Gabe

Anyone want to carpool? I am leaving from Berkeley. Gabe
