General Fishing Tips / Re: Slow pitch for salmon?

I think the old timers use to jig for salmon on the drift until the rules changed to circle hooks if you’re drifting. On a peddle kayak I’m sure you can trooch and jig and get away with using J hooks.

Seems to me that you might have a hard time claiming that your trolling if you are jigging...

“TROLLING is defined as angling from a boat or floating device that is making way by means of a source of power, other than drifting by means of the prevailing water current or weather conditions.”

I guess it’s the definition of trolling we’re looking at rather than the act of jigging. I’m assuming peddling at any rate is a “source of power” so you’re good to slow trooch and jig.

Nice! How many swimbaits do you have on your leader? Looks like one. And hooks? Octopus and treble?

Single swim bait with a single octopus hook for the smelt.

Fun day trolling smelt and throwing swimbaits from the Berkeley Pier to the Barges. Released a few and fought some monsters of the deep shipping channel. Enjoy and more to come1

Aloha,
Jae

one last technical question regarding the area (appears to be Asilomar)..."I ain't from around there" :smt003....  The marine sanctuary and reserve language to me is very confusing.  Where is it legal to fish and where is it not in the area?  I assume the area where the video was taken is legal.

Yes the area was legal to take and mussels are easy to find if you just do some exploring during minus tide.

Since the wife was at work I had the perfect opportunity to take the kids to the tide pools for some shellfish ID and foraging. Happy new year everyone and hope you all enjoy the video.

Let me find it for you, it’s about 7 years old so it might be discontinued.

Fun day on the water before the storm came rolling in. I managed to put together a quick how to/ set up crab video for all to enjoy!

Happy thanks giving everyone!

Thanks for the video, Papio3! Love the outrigger setup on your kayak too!

The extra deck space definitely helps.

Great vid!!  Your yak is "All-Biz."  I kept straining to see if I could get a glimpse of whitewater or humpy swells at Mavericks in the background....

Bushy

It’s for real “All-Biz”  :smt005

Thanks for the video Papio3.  Maybe I missed it but I don't see the ID on the red floats which is required by DFW.

Yes, might have been the camera angle but it’s written on both floats.
