Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / bayfront launch
« on: September 24, 2005, 08:50:05 PM »
I just got back from mendo. Caught zero fish, best fishing seemed to be from shore for catfish. Go figure! Good food though, and company to boot.
Anyhows, where is bayfront launch? Thinking of trying it...

It's the fishing, not the catching! Sure, the boils are exciting, but even then I sometimes don't hook anything. That's okay.
I wish my fishfinder would come back from the shop so I wouldn't have to fish "blind."
I wonder what's going on in the mornings?
See you all soon.

So Scwa, Jelly, and I get lots of excercise chasing boils and catching/releasing nice fish. As it should be. That was wednsday eve. I went out again thursday evening expecting more of the same, but....the birds weren't even around to keep me company. I only saw two little boils at dark right by the channel bouys. Windy too. You just never know.
I did hook a large fish while staying out of the wind in the lee of vinegar point. I was dropshotting a little white zoom on a deep edge. I had just caught a 2 lb bass. The larger fish i never saw and he broke me off. It broke off on the rig I horse stripers with. Heartbreaker not to even see it as i suspect it was a big bucketmouth.
See you all in a week!

Fished this evening till dark. Ran into the only bust just at dark in front of north ramp. Short lived, hooked nothing.
Going to Clear Lake in the morning. It's been kicking out nice fish, dropshotting and plastic frogs.
I hooked 2 bass over 4lbs at mendo on saturday. Dropshotting did the trick.

I launched at the north end. I didn't notice any smells.?
The fish were on the flats, 25' to 35' of water, between the boat-in campground and north to the northeast campground. I did see some half-hearted busts at 8:00 but nothing worth chasing.
I'll be there tomorrow. I'm gonna' fish flyrod poppers for big bluegills I saw at Long Point.

On the lake at 08:00, rowing the pram. Dropshotting was good around Long Point. The stripers showed, of course, on my way in at noon. I hooked them on anything I threw at them. I was wishing I had the flyrod! I had zero competition. Hot sun too!
I took some pix of the action and need only to figure out how to post.

On the lake at dawn, very foggy, cool, and a little breeze from the south. No striper sign so I rig up a dropshot rod. Fun! Lots of hits, lots of little bass off of points and rockwalls. Around ten the fog burns off and I'm getting ready to tool towards the ramp when I hear them...
It was a piscatorial melee. Fish hit the bottom of my 'yak, splashed me, and scared me. I didn't even see my plug get hit. It was as if I threw it into a hole comprised of striper maws. There was an actual roar caused by the thrashing of the water.
I had to stop using topwater cuz the birds kept grabbing my plug. Some of you out there know how when a boat takes off, other boats look its' way, knowing it's headed towards a bust. Today, I'd be sitting, and waiting with the birds, and when the birds all took off in one direction it would signal the direction of a bust. Just me and the birds.
I hooked some fish between busts using a Zoom Fluke rigged dropshot. Works great, just drop it to where you see them on the finder.
They busted on and off till noon.
Might fish Clear Lake tonight. Was out 2 days ago in a pb and got many fish on a black 10" worm. I broke a big one off.
Ahh, so many fish...

Fished this morning and saw a few boils. Ended up hooking fish suspended under me. Run across a thick school on the fishfinder, drop a Zoom 15,20' and hookup!
I've got pics but don't know how to post.

I fished thursday, friday, and saturday mornings. Saturday was all powerboats and hot sun.No busts at all. Thursday and friday were overcast and the stripers were willing. Many busts that actually lasted long enough for me to get into. Hooked most fish on topwater plugs. Even the ones that didn't get hooked were a blast as it was exciting to see them chase the plug! I was all alone friday, more boats thursday, but they were cordial. I lost one fish when it broke off my plug on the take. Several minutes later I find my plug floating on the surface. I was glad to have my $6 plug back. Another first, a striper almost landed in my boat. I was in the middle of a meaty boil when a fish jumps out of the water right next to me. Quite a surprise! It was also nice to meet another reader of this board, Albert. Good fishing with you Albert. Hope you get one before you leave.
