General Fishing Tips / ARW- Good Halibut Tides...
« on: April 24, 2021, 10:08:55 PM »
 Hey NCKA
As some of you may know I’m coming off a meniscus/ACL repair and am ready to test my knee and hit the salt of somekind.
I have a day open Fri 4/30 , and ARW has a simple launch vs North of Jenner. I’m more of a Ling/Rickfish guy but have been to ARW and caught Butts there.
I need a little schoolin on what are “good tides” for halibut.
On that day we start with a high of
7.2@2:23am
-1.3@9:30am
5.4@4:36pm
To me that is a pretty big tide swing of 8+ft.
Now actual fishing time is approximately 7-8am-12-1pm so  the low is right between that and I bet that’s important? But I do not know...
Then if you really want to get deeper you got Coefficient and Amplitude?
Hhmmm...
Would these tides be considered “good tides”?
Don’t know if I want to make the effort to hit Alameda or may go to Lake Sonoma for Steelhead / Bass...

But I really want a Butt :smt006

Thanks

General Fishing Tips / I have an Addiction...
« on: February 27, 2021, 10:09:07 PM »
of the good kind!
Been laid up since Nov with a meniscus/ligament repair, so I’ve had some extra time on my hands and was looking at this box of “extra gear” that I got at tournaments or somewhere along the way.  Was thinking of
making  a few 2 hooks rigs for rockfish with small flashers built in
so when April rolls along I’m ready.
Using jigs/swimbait or irons or homemade things for the lower hook, and a teaser of some sort for the upper hook, plus a mini flasher inbetween the hooks, I came up with some promising setups! 90% of the pieces I had laying around and figured I better use this shit up!!!
only bought a iron and jig/swimbait. The spinner’s came off a stash of bass topwater jigs.
Recycling this gear  was fun but I think I got carried away!Lol...
They all have 40lb mono ,steel leader and a rolling swivel for easy attachment to the mainline

I have never put something together like these in the 8-9 yrs I’ve been rockfishing but feel pretty good that I’ll catch fish with alot of em :)
Scent or tipped with squid will also be added!
Have you ever played with lil flashers in your setups?
Which one do you think will catch the most fish?

I was gonna make 3-4.... I got 15!!!

It’s about a month away :smt006

General Talk / Have You ever seen this? Goodbye Purple Sea Urchin!!!
« on: July 29, 2020, 01:31:03 PM »
This is encouraging!
On a recent trip to Big Blue on the beautiful Sonoma co  coast I caught a starfish, no big deal but when I turned it over guess what it was eating, a PURPLE SEA URCHIN!
I had heard that starfish are the urchins  enemy but never knew how they ate em? Well I guess they just open up that hole and suck it up!
As you know the purple sea urchins are creating havoc on the
NorCal  Waters. This is a good thing to see, I just hope they’re ALOT
Of starfish making a comeback to make a dent in the Urchin population
Time will tell.

General Talk / 1 Month to go... 2Lings
« on: February 28, 2020, 10:09:33 PM »
Just Jonesin to go fishin here and see it’s about a month away! :smt007
Had a couple questions for the smart guys out there.
I think I read somewhere that it is 1 LingCod in 2020? Is that true?
Wow! You’d have to change ur  current game plan, do to release that 24-27”er  in hopes that something better comes along?
I guess it would be good for the fisheries, a sign of the times?
Also, Live bait-artificial bait?
hhmmmm...

A little fish porn from 2019 for those who  are eager for April 4th!

General Fishing Tips / Unusual Rockfish Lures
« on: March 28, 2018, 03:26:46 PM »
With Rockfish season right around the corner,
the fish itch(strong desire to go fishing) is hitting me something bad!!! So I find myself making homemade lures. I was at a swapmeet last weekend and picked up some odds and ends and put these together...
Am I the only guy out there who makes stuff  that I hope will catch rockies and Lings?
Let’s hope they work :smt002

Tight Lines!
