For Sale / FREE: 14" landing net and J hook knockoffs
« on: September 18, 2019, 08:08:53 AM »
I got two pairs of these cheap kayak roof racks and didn't end up needing the second. I used most of the mounting hardware on the first set (which works fine), so you'd need to fashion a lower plate to clamp these onto your roof crossbars.

Nylon mesh landing net seems new.

Pick up in north Oakland before Monday.

For Sale / Hobie kayak sail - SOLD
« on: September 07, 2019, 02:51:42 PM »
Sail fits any Hobie kayak except the Islanders.

Includes sheet and a nice homemade roller furler (about $50 worth of pulleys) and a bag.

Sail has a homemade fiberglass batten. The proper batten is $22.99 + cap $4.59

Selling because it doesn't work well on an Oasis. Sail is too far back and messes with the steering.

Can bring to Santa Rosa this weekend if helpful.

Site Discussion / registration bug
« on: August 26, 2019, 03:09:23 PM »
A buddy had mystery trouble registering just now. I tried and couldn't register either. There was a red box around my answer to the question

Spell "cdef" forwards.

I switched my answer from "cdef" to "fedc" and it worked.

For Sale / FREE: Old waders - XL
« on: April 22, 2019, 11:48:22 PM »
Waterfowl Wading Systems by Caddis size XL. Someone gave these to me, I filled them up with water and there was some seepage around the top of the boot. I thought I'd might use them surf fishing, but never tried. Sizing chart suggests XL is a boot size of 11-12. https://caddiswaders.com/sizing-charts/

In Oakland if they're of use to anyone.

Wanted To Buy / Looking for Hobie AI hardware - adding ama to Oasis
« on: December 01, 2018, 05:18:33 PM »
I've got otobepelagic's old 2012 AI that I use with one ama and no sail 90% of the time. I'd like to set up my Oasis the same way, so I'd need "Cross Bars", the tubing that's bolted to the deck of the Islanders and holds the akas. Not sure if the 2015 crossbars are backwards compatible.

I thought I'd throw this out here before spending $300 $620 on new parts because there are some creative folks here, and who knows, maybe a salvage yard of Hobies I don't know about. Looks like TI crossbars from the same era would work. Already have ama, akas, tramps.

If curious, I think the crossbars should fit behind each of the 2015 Oasis seats. The hinges on the akas allow for some flexibility, thankfully. And they'd want some serious reinforcement inside the hull. I think the added storage and stability would make it worthwhile. A TI is not out of the question, but a little overkill for my needs most of the time.

Thanks!

Fish Talk / Brown things in lingcod flesh
« on: July 17, 2017, 08:29:26 PM »
Caught a 27" ling near Elk and found a 3-4 strangely shaped brown masses in its flesh (along with the usual roundworms). The blue parts tasted fine, didn't try the brown. Any ideas? Different shapes and sizes, and they didn't move, so unlikely to be a parasite I think.
