Recipes / Smoked Sardines
« on: January 02, 2013, 01:54:44 PM »
Caught these at Monterey Fish in Berkeley.  Basic brine overnight, smoked on weber gas grill with stainless steel smoker box filled with damp applewood chips.  About 5 hours at a low heat, lid slightly open.  These are very tasty.  Boney, but the small bones are soft enough to eat.  Sardines are very healthy and low on the food chain.

For Sale / Wanted Scupper Pro

I'm looking for a good used scupper pro, somewhere in the sf bay area.  Got one collecting dust you want to sell?

I forgot to mention in my last post, I lead a group of kayaker on a skin diving tour of the starfish beds, on the west side across from Tom's Point.  Several of us saw a school of striped bass, in the 18 to 22' range.  You can get a glimpse of them about 1:18 on this video
I haven't heard anything about stripers in Tomales - anyone caught them there?

I am a sea kayaker, but interested in fishing.  Sunday, 11/4/12 was out in Tomales, following a whale.  Stopped to talk to a fishing boat anchored in Whites Gulch (behind Hog Isl)  They had 2 halibut in the 36" range.  I did some crabbing for the first time.  Very shaky pulling up a net in a 19" wide boat.  Had to have friends raft up.  I only did one pull, but did get two keepers, one dungeness and one red
