General Talk / Ketamine Infusion for PTSD
« on: October 17, 2017, 08:30:41 AM »
Just curious if anyone has used Ketamine infusions as a way to reduce PTSD symptoms.  If so I was wondering if it worked and if there were any side effects.

I was returning from a So Cal trip and at approximately 3 am I was driving through Santa Rosa and noticed the nastiest wind I have ever seen in the area and a thick smell of smoke.  Right in front of me they closed hwy 101 and sent me right into the pits of hell.  Santa Rosa was on fire.  Cars, buildings and trees.  Absolute chaos. I was surrounded by fire and couldn’t breath for a long while as I was trying to find an exit.  I thought I was going to die so I turned on the video to document my death.  A little crazy but it made sense at the time.

Sorry to the fire guys for running over your hoses.

It took over 30 minutes to get out of this hell and finally get some air that was not so toxic and burning to my throat.  I am still shaking but wanted to pray for those who are still being affected.

This doesn’t even come close to the worst of it but will help you understand what it was like for many here.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Hobie Vantage Seat Problem on the water
« on: August 09, 2017, 09:32:17 PM »
On a recent trip I was peddling all dumb and happy and glad to be on the water.  All of a sudden my seat tipped to the side and I felt like a low rider.  It was very uncomfortable and I thought I had snapped the seat in half.  But after getting it to shore (after a full day of diving) I realized one of the big screws had backed out and caused the partial collapse.  I found the screw under the seat and it wasn't striped so it just backed out over time.  I checked all the other screws and many were loose.

Thought I would bring it up as one more maintenance thing to be aware of for the hobies.

For Sale / Free Makita drill, charger and case
« on: July 14, 2017, 02:47:39 PM »
My drill stopped working so I put the battery on the charger and it blinked red and green which apparently means there is a battery issue and it has an internal chip or something that will not allow it to work.

I don't have an extra battery to test it with but think it's just a battery issue.  If you already have an 18v battery that works with this you are welcome to give it a try or at least have an extra charger and a case if you need one.

My wife bought me a new drill and all my other makita tools have cords so going to toss it if no one wants it.

Not shipping but will save for someone coming to Mendo area or NCKA express it when avail.

Craftsmen's Corner / Setting up a whole house Generator
« on: February 07, 2017, 09:52:00 AM »
My place just lost power again.  I think it's been 5 times in the past month or so.  We have a couple Hondas which are great to run the RV that we are staying in during the house remodel but we also have the house, shop, well water pump and shop all on separate lines.

So now I have to run around and plug stuff in separately like the multiple freezers which are in different locations.  Still haven't figured out how to power just the well pump as it is hard wired.

So we will eventually set up a full house automatic generator but wanted to set up the connection at the main box that I can manually switch and hook a generator to until we make the more expensive investment.

Any ideas on something I can install now but will also be compatible with a future expansion of the system.

CA Regulations / 2017 Lingcod and Black RF limits
« on: January 13, 2017, 09:36:12 AM »
Awhile back I read that the ling limit was being dropped back to 2 and the black RF were going to 3 for 2017.

Was this info correct and if so did changes go into effect Jan 1st or March when new reg book comes out?

I searched the DFW site but nothing was coming up.

General Talk / No power again and a lighting strike to close for comfort
« on: January 10, 2017, 10:31:02 PM »
Been a crazy couple days on the coast.  Got power back last night after 30 plus hours without it just to lose it again a few minutes ago.

While everything was dark lighting struck on our property and shook everything like an earthquake/bomb exploded along with the brightest flash ever.

Our pet rabbit let out a scream like nothing I have ever heard but it's to dangerous to step outside and check on it or start the generator.  About now the thought of an automatic start generator sounds good.

My dog will not get off my lap and wants me to comfort him and he's supposed to be comforting me.

We have had two fences knocked down by trees and one just blew over.  I think the total tree down count has been 5 in the last couple days.

I can't imagine what I will find tomorrow but hopefully things don't get worse.

At least we have Internet for the moment.  So I can watch the storm on Doppler.  So much fun.

Looking forward to a couple of dry days.

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / 2016 Goals and DOTY placement
« on: December 31, 2016, 09:38:13 AM »
What a year.  I got home at 1 am and had a lot of time to think about 2016 on the long drive home.

I wanted to finish DOTY in the top 5 and I still have a shot at it.  I met new people and was able to dive new locations.  I broke several of my personal best records.  I tried two other dive competitions and got biggest ling for one and 2nd place overall for the other.

This year had many challenges with rougher water and smaller windows of opportunities to get out.  I saw many of the top placement divers putting in the time and getting their fish.  Some put in days on a species and never got their target.  Not for a lack of trying.  We all know how hard this can be.

It was very rare for me to dive two days in a row as my body needed more time to recover in between dives and long drives.

Wherever I end up I am ok with it as I had fun participating and gave it what I could without staying out to long or going into dangerous waters.

For being a newer diver I am still amazed with this sport and my personal improvements I continue to make on every dive.  DOTY has been a great way to catalog my fish and keep track of my progress.  I wanted to thank all of the guys keeping this Comp going and recommend it for newer divers as a way to improve your species identifications and skills.

I know some are diving today so some of the rankings are going to change.  Thanks for playing and good luck for those participating in 2017.

General Talk / Anyone Interested in Free ATV Safety Classes for Kids
« on: December 19, 2016, 05:23:28 PM »
Just putting this out there in case anyone has an interest.

I have recently become a licensed ATV instructor through the state of CA so I can help out our local park district with providing free ATV safety classes to the youth.  Unfortunately there have been some preventable tragedies involving local children on ATVs and I don't want to see that happen again.  I would love to teach them proper safety procedures while they are first getting started.  The classes are usually held in Ft Bragg CA and are provided for free.  They usually take half a day depending on the students.

Also every person who has purchased a new ATV should check their ATVs VIN number with http://www.atvsafety.org/
Adults and family members may also be entitled to free training.

Not only are these classes highly recommend, but the attendance certificate is required to ride on some trails and in some parks.

I was given permission to expand these classes outside of our local area and couldn't think of a better group to share this with.

General Talk / Post the best deals for the Holidays
« on: November 24, 2016, 08:52:19 AM »
I am often to slow to get the really good online deals and there is no way I will ever camp out in front of a store.

So if anyone comes across some really good deals on fishing, diving or homesteading supplies please pass on the links.

And if they are time sensitive please post up so others may be able to get in on some cost savings.

General Talk / 300 Million Dollar Willits Bypass is open
« on: November 05, 2016, 06:11:04 PM »
So I went down to Cotati for the RAAC meeting.  Wow them Abalone make people blurt out inappropriate things like they had Tourette's.

Well at least I noticed they opened the bypass so next time folks cut through and are not going to Ft bragg they can get to shelter cove quicker.

Craftsmen's Corner / Solved - 30/50 AMP RV outlet
« on: November 01, 2016, 10:17:48 PM »
I am electricity challenged.  So I have a couple questions for the pros and the knowledgeable DIY'ers.

We are having to live in the RV during the renovations on the property we bought.  I have the 50 amp RV cable dropping down to a 30 amp adapter and then to a 110 outlet.  Haven't verified amperage but guess it is at 20 amp as there are several things that trip the breakers but don't when we are connected to 30 amp service.  It may be 30 amp but not a direct line as when it blows other outlets in the garage also go out.

Down the road I would like to place a few permanent boxes on the property in case we move the RV or have guests, but looking for an easy solution for the time being.

So right now we are plugged into the outside outlet connected to the detached garage.  Just inside the garage there is a 220 outlet.  So not sure if I can rewire for a 50 amp, 30 amp or a fake 50 amp.

The more I think I can do this the more I think I will fry the wiring in my RV or kill myself.

Since we live on the coast I don't really need 50 amp for the A/C so can I just put a larger beaker in the box or is it just better to run a new line.  The main line and box are on the other side of the garage so if that is needed at least there is not a long run.
