Lobster is going pretty strong right now if anyone is thinking of heading south.  Got these a couple weeks ago out of Ventura.
Between me and Gopher Slayer we also had two dozen shorts.
Salmon heads for bait.

What's up all, been registered a long time, but inactive on the boards for a while, but still kayak fishing.  Been on Central coast kayak fishing for a number of years now as I live down on the central coast in Santa Maria.  Just wanted to say hello and looking forward to getting back on the forum more and coming up for some events this year, I am originally  from the Bay Area.

General Talk / Re: GWS bites fishing kayak Cambria 5/12/12

It was two separate incidents.  The guy who was attacked, won the CCKA opening weekend tournament.  they were almost back to shore about 150 yds offshore, as many of you know that water is not very deep 150 yds out 20 to 30 ft.  it has been reported witnesses said shark came up straight underneath, breached, knocked him out of his kayak and then bailed.  CCKA has latest info links on their board. the guy did an interview with one of the local stations.

There is camping near mill creek, Kirk Creek and Plaskett Creek which are on the one and Ponderosa which is about 12 miles inland on Naci-ferguson Rd.  Go to Reserveamerica.com, you get all the pertinent details or search those campsite names in the forums, they are discussed in detail.  usually booked full for the summer by now but i think they might leave a few first come first serve but not positive on that one.

Pay It Forward / Re: GET YOURSELF CHECKED!!!
« on: July 16, 2010, 01:57:01 PM »
I don't want to beat a dead horse but getting checked saved me from a probable heart attack.  I also had a mole removed from my head that had been there for too long, fortutnately was benign.  I too was neglectfull in going for a check up I did not get a physical for 11 years from 18-29.  When I finally went for one, I found out my cholesterol and triglycerides were higher than my doctor had ever seen in some one my age and with a family history on both sides of heart problems needless to say he and I were quite concerned.;  i have since with diet and medicine got them under control, and have routine blood tests to monitor.  The doctor said that even a few more years left unchecked I more than likely would have had a heart attck in my early thirties.   Like has been said here before, doesn't matter what the ailment, Cancer, heart disease, etc.  get it checked, even if you feel fine.  I had no symptoms of anything. Thank you Mooch for sharing your experience with us, and inspiring all of us to be a little more proactive in our health.

General Fishing Tips / Re: How do you keep fish fresh in your kayak?
« on: July 16, 2010, 01:29:01 PM »
there have been some great ideas on here.  The wet burlap seems to do a good job for me too.  I also snip a gill after catch, and just throw it in the tw under the sack.  then gut and gill on shore and into the ice.   after a few hours on ice i'll filet them,  the meat is more firm and easier to filet imo.  by bleeding them otw, and gut and giill on shore by the time i filet the meat is usually a very nice white color and hopefully sometimes a nice blue color as well if  i'm lucky

General Talk / Re: Missing Kayaker off Gaviota State Beach
« on: June 26, 2010, 10:35:00 AM »
The search was called off after five days, they found his yak and some gear but no sign of him.  he was a firefighter at vandenberg, avid surfer, and a water rescue specialist.  air force was out looking for him a long with almost every other agency in Santa Barbara County.   He was a local guy.  Really sad.  he went out alone in the afternoon at Gaviota, where it is almost always blowing 20+ knots by that time.
