General Talk / Hobie Revo 13 Opinions
« on: June 13, 2017, 10:27:06 PM »
What are some thoughts on the Hobie Revo 13? I am thinking of selling my small aluminium boat and Moken 12.5 to buy a 2017 revo 13 and im wondering if anyone has anything to say about how they like or dont like theirs. I would mostly be using it on the Napa river for striper fishing and the coast for rockfishing and maybe salmon. I am also looking to do some trout/kokanee trolling in the future. Does it fish well without the mirage drive if I was fishing flats for stripers? Is it very roomy? Is it comfortable after a long day of peddling?
Thanks

General Talk / Rear Ended with Kayak
« on: April 22, 2017, 09:55:36 PM »
After a good day of slowing fishing at SWN with @Etausend and friends for a few limits of lings and misc. rockfish, I was rear ended on my way home. I transport my 12.5ft. Moken in the bed of my pickup with a 6ft. bed and the kayak sticks out about 5 feet with a bright red flag on the end. On my way home a large dodge pickup pulled up behind me and was tailgating me sort of close while going 10mph+ over the speed limit through Petaluma until we got to a stop sign. There were a few cars at the stop sign and we waited until I was next to go at the sign, and right before I hit the gas I got a solid hit from behind. I turned around and said FUCK! out of instinct, and then pulled through the stop sign and pulled on to the shoulder. The Dodge pulled up behind me and asked my kayak was ok, to which I didnt yet have a response. I pulled off my ratchet straps and visually inspected my hull as good as I could to find no signs of damage. It looked like the front of the bed of my truck may have dented in a bit from the kayak being rammed into it, but I think there may have been a smaller dent there already. It took some control to not to yell at the guy. I only asked him what he was doing/ how he hit me, and he just said that he didnt see the flag (AKA DISTRACTED). We ended up not exchanging any info and after further inspection once I got home, I still didnt find any damage from the hit. This relatively harmless incident is getting me thinking of buying a roof rack, but one of the reasons I got a truck is to avoid loading a kayak on to a rack. Decisions decisions.

General Talk / Rockfish regs
« on: April 15, 2017, 08:08:46 PM »
I went out today with some friends for the opener and did pretty good. We got 2 and a half limits of lings and some different rockfish. The problem is that this is only my second time rock fishing and I released some rockfish that were probably legal but I didn't know for sure. Is there any clear chart with all the rockfish regs of the Sonoma coast? Or can someone just tell me what the prohibited species are and what species have size and number requirements? Ive looked through the regs but I feel I'm missing some things

General Talk / Rockfishing line
« on: April 13, 2017, 09:52:40 AM »
I was wondering what you guys use for line for rock and ling fishing. I dont know if I should fish braid to a mono leader or do all mono and not worry about tying leaders

General Talk / Ling Tacos
« on: April 11, 2017, 06:41:48 PM »
This was my first time eating lingcod and I must say it was better than I excepted. Even though the fish was masked by the tacos, the taste and texture was distinct and very good. These tacos are better than any restaurant as far as im concerned.

General Talk / First lingcod
« on: April 10, 2017, 08:39:26 AM »
My friend invited me down south to Monterrey to rockfish on Sunday. It was my first real experience out in the ocean and I must say I enjoyed it a lot. There was a 7ft swell at 10 seconds but it wasnt too bad. There was about 8 of us and we all caught fish. I ended with about 5 lings and 3 or 4 rockfish. I hooked many more than I boated though. I kept hooking into very decent lings and they kept popping off my jigs/swimbaits. I had 65lb braid to 25ln mono. How do you guys prevent break offs with lings? Overall the trip was a lot of fun and I cant wait for the opener up here

General Talk / Industry Standard VHF Radio?
« on: April 05, 2017, 10:16:19 AM »
Im starting my ocean kayaking career this rockfish season and I need a radio. Is there a industry standard for radios? I just want a basic, affordable, functional, reliable radio if there is one. Like using an ugly stik or 870 shotgun...

General Talk / Napa River 4/5
« on: April 04, 2017, 09:57:17 PM »
Im going to hit the napa river for stripers tomorrow morning if anyone wants to join. Im launching from the riverside launch around 6:30. This part of the river is clear right now so I will start with throwing topwater and then move to trolling and swimbait fishing. Low wind forecast and high tide at 9
