Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Getting Ugly Stik Tiger to fit Rod Holder
« on: February 14, 2019, 09:41:25 PM »
I had the same rod, rod holder, and problem as you.  My solution was to shave down the butt of the Tiger to a point where I could shove it in the rod holder.  And then I sold that kayak along with your rod holder.  On my new kayak I use the Scotty Rocket launcher and like them much more for trolling.

Welcome! The NCKA community is indeed awesome.

You should test drive a Revo before buying. Just say’n.  :smt006

Thanks Pete.
Okay, another question...how deep can I troll with a Laketroller? I have each loaded with 250lb braid. Will that with 4lbs get me down to 175' for Monterey salmon?

Phew!  For a while there I thought I was the ONLY one thinking about this upcoming salmon season.   :smt003 :smt006

Nice going.  Look like a good day snaring.  Man, snaring crab is a lot easier than taking the kayak out.  Was this last week sometime?  No surfers means pleasant swells.

General Talk / Anchoring system for Revo 13

Any of you have experience with anchoring a Revo 13.  Yes my intention is to fish for sturgeon and Yes Eddies catches are super inspiring.   Duh sturgeon slayer. :smt001 :smt006

I've installed the Yak attach anchor trolley on 2 of my former kayaks but was looking for a simpler solution for my sturgeon dreams.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Salmon rod suggestion

I use a 8'6" Shimano Convergence 2-piece rod.  As a fish is hooked and I'm "walking the dog" trying to tire the thing out I can see through my peripheral vision whether I have the right amount of bend and therefore the right amount of tension on the salmon.  If the rod is too straight I start peddling faster - too much bend I either throw line out or slow down.  BTW, I do use a down rigger.  I never had much confidence with the DD because I never really knew what depth it was at. And having confidence in your fishing gear is EVERYTHING, to me!

I like the 6'6" Ugly Stick Tiger for bottom fish. But I have to say that I've never tried it for salmon.

Thanks for the photos. I have the same yak and will need to do some fortifications at some point. I have a lot of experience using JB weld. It’s great stuff.

Got a hankerin' for a staple snack...sticky rice, spam sauteed until golden, seasoned in 1 to 1 to 1 parts soy sauce, sugar, and mirin...packed into mold and wrapped in nori...any tips or unique touches, I would like to know...pics to follow... :smt006
Oh yeah...dat duh ono grinds.  I made those for my salmon trips.  Good salty snack and basically non-perishable.  I'm curious what your recipe is I used one off the net which was pretty good. And how do you keep the rice from falling apart?  I was using Japanese sticky rice and had to smash the shit on the press.   The next time I try I'll use a non stick pan.  Cooking the spam in an iron skillet, I found, gives you a lot of black char from the sugar.

bummer man!! props for getting out there though =P
Thanks.  After this morning I have a strange urge to both learn how to surf and troll for trout at my local lake.
I’m glad you got out without losing much. Several of the teachers with River and Ocean would be happy to teach a surf zone class for kayak fishermen. I have taken two of the surf zone classes and feel pretty comfortable moving around in the surf with my kayak stripped of gear. The last class I added knee straps, and it made a huge difference when bracing.
Mark, sadly, I wasn't in my kayak when it happened. :smt013  I fell fortunate I never got out.

Glad you are well...sorry bout the lost accessory and beanie and glad you gaverago...gotta practice and learn "the hard way"  I guess... :smt006
Thanks brah.
