General Talk / Re: Alaska trip recommendations or tips?« on: March 30, 2023, 06:17:23 AM »What’s up everyone? The Cracker Jack is a good boat, but one of the cheapest ways to go out of Seward is Millers Landing if you can pilot your own boat. There are also some other local charters to use too. just do your homework. Going with a lodge is the way to go, but try and find a good one. I used to use one out of Soldotna, but they got bought out and the service went down hill. Their guides are still some of the best, but have gotten a bit lazy in recent times. One good way to fish up there is create your own trip and call up guide services to take you out. Or just head to a sportsman show and check them out. Also make sure you head up there when just about everything is biting; like in July. Early July will have the sockeye salmon running in Seward and later will have them heading up the Kenai. Silvers start to gather around the mouth of Resurrection Bay in July too. Real fun to catch on a light rod. Rock fish are all over and if your guide is willing, you can see if you can get into a large lingcod while halibut fishing. If you want to catch kings then June is good. There aren't as many as there used to be, but in the ocean they abound. All I really know about fishing Alaska is the Kenai Peninsula, but I've heard Sitka and Ketchican are good too. 9
CA Regulations / Re: Urban Coyotes« on: February 28, 2023, 12:39:57 PM »Bunch of bumpkins, shooting coyotes. They are a nuisance to cattle here in Texas especially when calves are born. They carry rabies to and we just got too many of them. besides attacking small animals the urban ones began attacking people here, so they got shot. Just last year a coyote in a town south of me had a coyote snatch a small kid right in front of the parents. they had to beat it with a stick to make it let go. 10

Nice Eric. Thank goodness the salmon still have a river like the Eel to spawn in. You and all of you who help protect it have done it good.

In the past 20 years I have fished 8 times up there and have seen its decline. In order to get fish you want you need to find a real good lodge and demand they let you fish for the species you are after.
There still are many good opportunities but the king salmon runs on the Kenai Peninsula have been closed off over the past few seasons. Silver salmon still do good as well as the sockeyes during certain times of the year. Halibut is okay but the regulations are a pain to follow. As for my Sothern California tuna trip, I will be securing our dates by this afternoon; once I hear back from my crew. |
