General Talk / Re: Kayak cleaner

Try rubbing the stained area with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.  It may work.

I use Windex to unfreeze salt-encrusted zippers.  It works most of the time.

General Talk / Re: How often do you change you main line?
« on: June 16, 2021, 04:27:23 PM »
There is a possibility that the braided line was still good, and the problem could be caused by a damaged rod guide(s).  Carefully examine the guides, especially the rod tip and the guides near the tip.  Look for any nicks, cracks, or grooves.  A cracked guide could fray the line easily and the line would break under tension.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Hunters Point launch
« on: March 13, 2021, 04:23:27 PM »
I checked Candlestick Park Area a couple of weeks ago.  The park was closed, so you cannot park inside to access the launching area.  There was a spot near the 1st pier (not a public fishing pier) that is closer to the water, but it is a rocky shore (bad for launching at low tide unless you have a super light kayak).  You have to squeeze in your kayak between parked cars and trailers, then lift it over a short wooden fence and a bunch of garbage to access it.
The Jackrabbit beach area is also harder (long walk plus wooden fence and garbage) to access due to parking lot closure.  I think for me it is more trouble than it is worth to launch around there now unless of course if fishing becomes very hot there.  :smt001

General Talk / Re: Horizontal Rod Storage/holders
« on: October 20, 2020, 11:22:12 PM »
No holders needed.  I would just strap the rod(s) to one side by inserting the rod butts under the rear bungee of the tank well and strap down the middle section of the rod(s) with a ball bungee or your paddle holding bungee since your paddle is in your hands when launching or landing.  Keep it simple.  Just my 2 cents.

General Talk / Re: Novel Coronavirus impacts

When I went to the store yesterday I was surprised to see none of the employees wearing masks or gloves.
Just like TP, masks and gloves are a hot commodity right now. I'm sure those grocery workers would wear them if they could get their hands on them, but supplies of those items are being diverted to hospitals. Even veterinary hospitals are being asked to send their remaining supply to medical hospitals.

I have quite a few friends who work for Safeway in California and another big grocery store in Florida.  They told me that they tried to use their own gloves and masks at work, but they were told/warned by management not to do so.

For Trade / Re: 2011 Revo 13 for similar Revo 11

I have a 2007 Badge (sand) Sport in good condition, has original fins and upgraded rudder.  It only weights 48 lbs and I can put the whole boat in my 4 Runner Suv (without opening the rear window).  Very portable.

Thank you guys for contributing your knowledge and experience of fish sauce making.  I now have much more confidence to give it a try (if I can catch any herrings this year) knowing that I would not stink up or blow up my house with my new experiment!  :smt002

Thanks for the reply.  I think I am going to give it a try too.  By the way, does the container, that holds the fish guts and salt, need to be completely sealed (to prevent smells) or loosely closed (to allow ventilation) during the fermentation process?

Does the sauce need to be refrigerated after bottled?  The fish sauce looks so good.
Thanks for sharing the recipes.

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / Re: FYI fromFuzz

Thanks Jim for the info.  I felt a little relief to know of its length, but still I don't want to ever see that cute and friendly thing when I am out there diving.
