General Talk / Farewell for now« on: November 09, 2015, 09:30:07 AM »
As some of you know, I recently made a tough decision to move back to the motherland. It's been something I've been wrestling with for a long time. When I moved to California about 3.5 years ago, I had to find a way to satisfy my fishing addiction and make new friends. I fished by myself on the freshwater for a long time and always felt like something was missing. There's nothing like running into the Salinas mafia on "their" river in your tiny 8 foot kayak to change all that Ever since that fateful day I've had so much goddamn at the events, hookups and grill and chills with you guys that it has made it almost impossible to leave. Kayak fishing has become one of the things I am most passionate about and a huge part of that are the people I do it with.
Much love to HAC, SCSS, Sac Crew and of course all my local A-Hull brothers. It was so rad fishing and partying with everybody on Saturday, that was truly one for the ages! Big thanks to my boy FM1 for being such a great friend and putting together such a legit hookup and grill and chill to say goodbye. I’ll miss you all and I sincerely hope some of you come visit Big Sky country sometime. I’ll be less than an hour from Yellowstone and some of the most remote, untouched alpine lakes and streams in the lower 48…not to mention some of the best hunting in the whole world (shhhhhh). There’s a lot of stories to tell from Saturday but the highlight for me was carrying my yak up the stairs at SWS: So I’m pretty much the last one who needs help carrying my yak up and I ask Deva to give me a hand…”no problem, but I’ll take the light end you grab the back” he says. So as we’re going up the stairs I’m thinking Damn this feels heavy, I must have some water in my hull!!! Meanwhile Deva is taking his sweet f%*&ing time and blah blah blah talking about all the awesome gear he won at the PIF…I’m about to drop the goddamn thing but I don’t want to be a pussy so I toughed it out. I’m thinking to myself, when did I get so weak?? Either it’s me or something is wrong with my yak. What seems like HOURS later, after DEVA has pretty much recounted his whole PIF experience we finally make it to the top of the stairs and I am DONE. I started getting a little suspicious when everybody comes over to inspect my yak…FM1 opens my hatch, “your yak full of water or what, big pussy? Oh! You have a bunch of pool noodles in here, that must be why it’s so heavy”…I started getting suspicious, open my plano box and it’s full of giant rocks!!! Sons of bitches must have put 60 lbs of rocks in my plano box!!! Nothing surprises me anymore 3

General Fishing Tips / White Bass« on: October 23, 2014, 03:43:48 PM »
Planning to target White bass at Lake Nacimiento this weekend with FM1, Cochino and maybe DPshim and bloodbath. I know Dan and Andy have a lot of experience fishing there and probably know a thing or two about catching those stripey slabs. Just wondering if anybody has ever gotten on them before and has any tips on lures, structure to look for, depth they might be at this time of year, etc. Also wondering if they're worth eating??? I always get excited with the prospect of catching a new species, hopefully the bite is on

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Pablito catches arctic grayling 8/29« on: August 31, 2014, 07:54:03 AM »
I had the pleasure of spending the weekend in Bozeman, MT for a friend's wedding and was also able to cram in some big sky shananigins. My mom put in some time getting fishing intel from her friends who frequently fish the alpine lakes and told me the grayling bite was good at emerald lake. We decided to get up early the day of the wedding (which started at 4).
What made this experience extra special is that my mother is an incomplete quadriplegic. She was in a terribly violent car accident in 2005 which damaged, but fortunately did not sever, her spinal cord at C4. It has been unbelievable seeing her progress from re-learning to walk to dragging me on a ten mile "death march" at 9000 feet in which we gained 2000 feet in elevation. The hike was incredible and made me question why I'd ever left this beautiful state. There were huckleberries and elder berries EVERYWHERE. And of course we did a little foraging along the way. About three miles in there was a beautiful waterfall and we knew we were about two miles away. The last two miles were the toughest as we climbed switchback after switchback and gained probably over 1000 feet in elevation. The whole time it's hard not to wonder and be a little anxious about what furry predator might be waiting around the corner. Finally we crested the ridge and took it all in. The pictures really don't do it justice. Unfortunately I only had about an hour to fish because of time constraints for the wedding. I had forgotten how amazing it feels to fly fish and it brought back so many memories of growing up in the bitterroot. 3rd cast a little cutthroat blew up my dry fly. Game on! I caught one more but really wanted a grayling. About the fifth time that I had told mom "last cast I swear!" I hooked up with what I was hoping for! It was unbelievable to share my first grayling catch with my mother. Took a couple quick pics and got her back in the water. The hike back to the car was a little tough for ma but she was a trooper (understand that this woman has burning nerve pain from the neck down caused by a cyst around her spinal cord). She only had to stop and rest and stretch a few times before we finally made it to the car. It's really hard to put into words how much this woman inspires me and honestly I'm getting a little emotional as I write this. Her perseverance and courage can give hope to anyone who has gone through lows in their life. No matter how real the struggle or how large the problem, it can be overcome and things WILL get better if you maintain a positive mindset. She hiked ten miles in grizzly country!!! Never give up 11
Fish Talk / Opah caught in Cali!« on: August 04, 2014, 04:21:12 PM »
I admittedly know nothing about this species. The article says they're a warm water species that is rarely caught in California. What does it mean...?

For Sale / Baitcasting reel (wanted)« on: July 24, 2014, 07:32:12 PM »
Heading to Albion tonight and I'm in the market for a baitcasting reel. I'd prefer a left hand retrieve if possible but I'm not too picky. Just want something functional and simple. If anybody has anything they're down to sell bring it to Albion and hit me up. I'll be in the a-hull camp.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / HMB State Beach surf fishing???« on: July 17, 2014, 04:46:09 PM »
I'm in San Mateo for work and am itching to scope out some new fishing grounds. I see that HMB state beach is close and that in the past there have been some NCKA hookups/fish and chills there. Anyone know how the perch fishing has been lately? I'm probably gonna cruise over there tonight. Company/suggestions welcome
