Kayaks / Re: I want to upgrade!
« on: May 15, 2025, 09:50:07 AM »
It’s been said a million times but definitely demo what you are looking at before buying. There have been several kayaks that I really wanted to like but they just didn’t work out for me.  :smt001

Everyone’s body type is a little different and what works well for one person might not be the best for for you.

If no demos available nearby try coming to an Ncka event. In my experience everyone is super friendly and willing to let you take their kayak for a quick spin, bribes in the form of a drink are always welcome of course  :smt001

Ok looking at the above post I may have underestimated the tortillas I bought. Never done a GS before :smt001

I now have 500 tortillas I’m bringing.

12 lbs of limes.

Also I made 8lbs of pulled pork with some Hawaiian rolls for some pulled pork sliders.

6 lbs of limes and 200 6” white corn tortillas

General Talk / Golf during GS weekend?
« on: May 12, 2025, 05:10:53 PM »
Let me preface this by saying I am a terrible golfer. I score my rounds by how many balls I lose. I just recently started hitting balls and have been having fun learning how to play.

That being said I am bringing my golf gear to Shelter Cove for the Gimmie Shelter weekend coming up.

Anyone interested in hitting some balls there?

General Fishing Tips / Re: Rockfish and Lingcod techniques
« on: May 12, 2025, 03:54:25 PM »
There is a ton of info on this site and everyone has their own opinion.

A guide might be very helpful in your quest for knowledge. A great one was the first to reply to your question, and he fishes out of a great area!

For me, I generally don’t use bait. I’m with Al and mostly use gulp grubs. A lot of time I will have a 3-4 inch gulp grub above on a 6/0 siwash(open eye crimped onto a 3 way t swivle) with a 6 inch gulp below on a jighead anywhere from 2-8 oz. If I need heavier I’ll switch to a jigging iron.

If targeting lings specifically I will ditch the top teaser to avoid rockfish and just go big swimbait, or even better big live bait. Bigger baits keep the small rockfish away and attract lingcod.

Yes it’s deep. They are probably out looking for balled up Shad offshore by now.

Oh for potluck I’m doing pulled pork sliders again.

I also have a few small items to donate as prizes.

Hi Ricci, just wanted to bump this thread up and ask what else you need for the " Taco Shack ", I'll check back with you before we head out.

Thanks again, tight lines Tim
Hey Tim, thank for donating. We still could use plates, packs of shredded cabbage, couple purple onions, cilantro, and limes.
Ricci what is still needed? I can throw some $$ your way, or will be hitting the store prior to heading up and can buy whatever you need.

Sam is going to bake some desserts for me to bring as well.
That sounds awesome John. Either or will work. I listed some items we still could use. Oh, Corn tortillas! Preferably white King size. Yes lots of tortillas

I’ll hit Costco for tortillas.

General Talk / Re: Where are the crappie near me?
« on: May 06, 2025, 01:09:16 PM »
Painting with a broad brush here but they should be in a spawning mode. They will most likely be up shallow and close to structure. I personally like to use 2” keitech swimbaits on a 1/16 oz jighead. They should be schooled up so once you find one you should find many. Sorry I don’t have more specific information for the lakes near you.

Nice setup.

I'm just curious as to the pros of Li-NMC as compared to LiFePo4. I have the latter, and it's lasted forever, no worries of a meltdown, and possibly even cheaper.

I’m probably the least qualified person to speak on this, but I’ll take a stab at it  :smt001

I’ve owned and used both. Traditionally speaking LiFePo4 is a “safer” lithium chemical reaction to yield electrical energy, while other types can be more energy dense.

So in my search for a battery I took into consideration the case size I had to work with, and the output/reserve that I wanted. The one I chose has several safety systems built in that minimize/eliminate the risks associated with LI-NMC. It is IP-67 rated by itself so water shouldn’t be an issue. It also has a BMS system that is able to shut down the battery/disconnect the terminals.

It has a lot of bells and whistles (usb and usb/c charger ports even!) which are realistically overkill for probably many users. That being said I think that the extra capacity in the smaller form factor is really the selling point for me. If it lets me get a 3 day fishing trip in while being able to charge my phone and radio then I am willing to pay the premium price over a LiFePo4 battery.

Phew, that was a really wordy way of saying it has more AH in a smaller/lighter form.

General Fishing Tips / Re: What do I have here?
« on: April 26, 2025, 02:26:19 PM »

I spend way too much time looking at fishing tackle, so I’ll take a stab at some that I think I know.
A flies
B flies
C panther Martin
D kastmaster
E blue fox fish head spinner
F rooster tail
G kastmaster
H blue fox fish head
I underspin. Crappie or trout sized
J super duper (meps or luhr Jensen don’t remember)
K meps black fury spinner
L another super duper

Kastmasters, rooster tails, blue fox, and meps are all lures that many trout anglers will have. The super duper is a trolling lure I think. The underspin is an oddball, but trout might go for it.

I’m now 2 full fishing days into the new battery (8 hr days) and I’ve only used 1/4 of the power bar. Humminbird helix 9 g4 MSI run at 7/10 brightness.  Super happy with the set up.
