General Talk / Re: Fish Descender
« on: July 24, 2024, 11:40:43 AM »
I agree with Pat that it should be enforced in the >50fa seasons.  However also, I believe that immediate use is to be used immediatly, and that means that I stop what i'm doing and use it.  Doesn't specifically mean that I have to have it rigged, but as Alex said it's going to be debatable on the in possession vs immediate use definition.  I've not been rockfishing yet this year, so I've not had one rigged for use, but it's there in my box ready to be used. But when I do, i'll have it rigged on a handline ready to be used.

General Talk / Re: Anyone fish in a tandem?
« on: July 24, 2024, 10:04:34 AM »
I think that the peddle tandems are not as much of a divorce boat situation as a paddle tandem.  You can easily peddle without coordination and steer with a rudder.  The divorce boat issues stem from having to have good paddle technique, or you end up going in circles and then things can go down hill from there  :smt044

Not really sure how comfortable it would be doing it solo however, but i'm sure it can be done.  If you want to go with the tandem just be sure you can also fit a single in your garage later when you you have the fishing itch and she doesn't want to get up at 5am  :smt005

Can you just replace the sprockets to update to a V2 mast?

Introductions / Re: NEWBIE in Santa Cruz

Welcome Dave, a pleasure to meet you  :smt003  Consider launching in the SC harbor off their hand launch docks and just going for a paddle/peddle inside the harbor to get your feet wet so to speak.  Welcome to the madness, look forward to hearing your reports.

I'm sure i have an old fin and mast if you would like it, but buying new turbo fins is the way to go  :smt003.

There are courses you can take as well as hiring a professional guide. I took the same course multiple times over the years to keep improving the skills.  Lots of rockfishing spots require launching from the beach, and it does require practice before trying it with all your expensive fishing gear.  There are other spots that are easy to launch without a harbor such as the beach by Monterey Kayak Company, which also does have lessons, guides, and kayaks to rent.  Be a kayaker first, and you will easily become a kayak fisherman.

its an uncomfortable and awkward enough conversation with the DMV person regarding a kayak.  a SUP would blow their mind.

For the low fee it would cost, all the more reason to do it!

Contact your dealer if you can for some help.  There was also a 2019 Outback leaking thread recently, maybe useful.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Budget treble hook replacement (bulk)
« on: July 09, 2024, 10:26:26 AM »
The ones on the lures are probably same quality as Alibaba, or even the same source. But why go budget friendly if you recognize they are substandard hooks.  If I'm swapping hooks out, they are for the highest quality I can get.
