For Sale / Sail for Sale. New Hobie sail.
« on: March 19, 2024, 02:42:23 PM »
Hello all.
I have an unused, brand new, Hobie sail in the Hobie soft case. $200
Alas, I have no mast for it. Got the boat with all the bells and whistles but the previous owner misplaced the mast.
Maybe someone has lost, torn, worn out, or otherwise rendered their current sail unusable.
Just a shot in the dark.
I'd post pictures but my FTP game is so weak!
Thank you all.

Jonathan

No recourse with coast guard?

Sent from my SM-G928T using Tapatalk

US Coast Guard took the report but stated that since it was private vessels involved, it was a civil matter.
The Sheriff has finished their investigation as far as I know and has submitted the case to the DA. We shall see what happens next.

Update.
Sheriff has not gotten back to me yet. Was contacted by the passenger who wanted to mediate. I asked for an apology and a rudder that he broke.
He said that I drifted into him, (backwards apparently), and he is not going to participate in this issue any longer.
He was under way with his engine ahead, coming up current, and I, without a paddle in the water, drifted into him.
I can only hope the Sheriff has better luck.

What a chucklehead.

Safety First / Re: To wetsuit or, not to wetsuit?

Be sure to check out http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=38111.0

This is a subject that has been discussed at length several times, I'm not gonna suggest you use the search function, cause that might just be counter productive, or maybe you'l find one of those threads who knows.

But, ya gotta dress for immersion, it's a safety thing not a comfort thing, if it was a comfort thing then you could just pass on it.

As to what margin of safety you need is where the differences of opinion really come in.  Many members think that a 3mm suit is good, a few of us don't think that's enough. Some of the comments I've seen about going thicker tend to say you're crazy if you go thicker that 3, but those comments too are about comfort, not about safety. Thicker suits are hotter, no getting around that.

There have been instances (very few to be sure) where, for a variety of reasons, yakers have ended up being in the water for long periods of time, luckily they lived to report it here. A 3mm is great for a quick dip and remount, but would be dangerously inefficient (IMO) if you had to be in the water for an extended period.

I wear a 5mm FJ with a 2 mil front zip tight neck surf style wetsuit jacket. And I, have a new 7mm to replace the 5 but haven't used it yet, just got it back form having the relief zipper put in.
Where did you send it to het the zipper put in?

Jens Hansen, owner of mad river tackle in Arcata, knows who did it and has even spoken to him about it. Jens hasn't identified him to the rest of us yet but if the sheriff wishes to pursue the matter, they should start with Jens.
Sweet!! I'll give Jens a call and see what he says about them. Sheriff will get the info in the morning. Thanks guys!

Blond driving across the Calif desert sees another Blond sitting in a Kayak trying to paddle across the sand. She stops and rolls down her window and yells "hey your the type that gives us blonds a bad name". "If I could swim I would come kick your A$$".
One blonde walking beside a river sees another blonde on the other bank. She asks, "How do I get to the other side?" The other blondes responds, "You are on the other side!"
