Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: fish bag under deck

Anybody have experience with Elkton brand? This one is a good size and has positive reviews. Plus it's not as expensive as some other brands.
http://www.amazon.com/Elkton-Insulated-Zippered-Compact-Fishing/dp/B018REJ68C?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&ref_=pe_140030_188006250_em_1p_4_ti

Ideally, I'd like to get a bag that is top-loading and easy to open/close. Because I'm imagining it would fit nicely inside the bow. But I don't want to fumble around while scooting my butt towards the bow hatch. That's why I like the idea of these bags with gusseted bottom that expand. Then I could just pry open the bow hatch and drop in my fish. http://www.amazon.com/Reliable-Fishing-Products-Kill-20x48-Inch/dp/B0097PQY4U/ref=pd_sim_200_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=41wL4gsqCmL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1WDWPRJ30CQ9DFQXZPWZ
Thanks for the lead on the Elkton brand.  Just saw a bag on the Jackson website that I may consider in the center hatch.

General Talk / Re: Happy Easter to NCKA
« on: March 27, 2016, 12:23:24 PM »
I just wanted to wish you all a Happy Easter.  For those that don't believe in God I am not trying to offend and offer you a happy Sunday.

Took the grandkids (still hard to believe I am a grandfather) to see the Easter bunny yesterday in Ft Bragg and had a great time.

I woke up wanting to go diving but aggravated an old arm injury and was unable to use my right arm.  It's been hit and miss with good and bad days.  It's so difficult trying to accomplish basic tasks when they hurt so much.  I have two arm braces keeping movement to a minimum but hope it lets up soon.

I do have a shark shield and pray it works.  If it doesn't and a shark approaches with enough time for me to react would it be wrong to sacrifice my bad arm to save the good limbs or is my pain affecting my thoughts.

Many have it worse so I am trying to stay positive and will pray for others who need it.  The carrot next to Easter bunny is a local child name Nick who has Cancer and has been through numerous operations and has been sick and in the hospital much of his life.  The wife and I have become bone marrow donors and help support him and his family when we can.  The community came out yesterday and really supported him and his family.  The shirt in the picture they made to support him and others with Cancer.  My pain seems like a prick with a thorn compared to what he has gone through and I will pray for a miracle for him before me any day.

I believe and celebrate with you in the hope and freedom we have!  Glory to God for your post, I do not know you but I know I have another brother in Christ.  Peace and rest to you, and healing bones, joints, and frustrations as well. :king:

CA Regulations / Re: Where to Buy a Live Largemouth Bass?
« on: March 24, 2016, 07:48:34 PM »
March 24, 2016

Question: I rent a home on a property that has a pond with some quite large largemouth bass in it. The landlord lets people fish the pond on a catch-and-release basis. I caught one, easily 6-8 pounds, which managed to take the bait and large hook so deep that I could not remove the hook. I thought I had condemned the fish to a slow painful death, so rather than let it suffer, I took the fish. The owner of the pond was very upset when I told him. He said if I had just cut the line the fish would have survived. Do you have any idea where I can buy a large bass to replace the one I killed? (Daniel C.)

Answer: Replacing a fish the size of the one you’ve described is highly unlikely. Most aquaculture facilities only keep black bass up to about three inches due to cannibalism. Regarding replacing the fish though, you can find a list of licensed aquaculturists with locations and products sold (limited to those who elected to be listed) on our website at http://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Aquaculture. Click on the link on the right that says “List of Aquaculturists (PDF).”
I have talked to an aquaponic guy up north of marin named Max,  I have his number and he might have some leads.  Look up the aquaponic fish farm dudes.

This is not a question that is being asked by an NCKA member.
Hojo is quoting Q&A from the DFG.
Gotcha, I'll catch on.......

Love this thread!  Fresh fish preservation is of utmost priority to me, I will learn this Iki jime japanese technique and keep ya'all posted.  Ice pick to brain and wire down spine, ice slurry.  Blood flows to gut and not meat, no rigimortis(sp) if done properly which is lactic acid in muscles which is a toxin.  Seems complex but I'll try to keep it simple.  I like the cutting board material attached to the hatch door that provides a surface and rigidity to the door on the Kraken.  No rush cause I gotta catch some fish first :smt005

[/quote Thanks, new to the crew, and went out for my second time ever today.  Paradise pier tiburon, small craft advisory, learned way too much too quick.  Actually enjoyed the adventure and discovered not ideal conditions but could manage and navigate

Hi, my name is Ed and I live in Arroyo Grande, so I anticipate my adventures will mostly be on the Central Coast. I've been assembling equipment and trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks this site's members for their contributions to that goal!

I've done it all wrong and bought a Jackson Kraken 15 without trying it or any other kayak. Just the way I seem to do things. I've been eyeing it for a while and found a deal I couldn't pass up. I've bought all the suggested safety equipment and added some of my own--a pair of web fingered gloves in my pfd pocket just seemed like a good idea.

I moved back to CA a couple years ago after living in CO for over 30 yrs. My saltwater experience is limited to surf and pier fishing. Nice to be a member of your fine forum!
How did you do it all wrong by buying a Kraken?
Sorry, shoulda said greetings and welcome before trippin' on the nitty gritty, So hey, I'm an Ed and I got a Kraken, and one of my new favorite things to say now has a new meaning.  Let's get crackin. is now spelled differently in my mind :smt031
