Once it’s registered, you have to continue paying for registration. Good luck selling a kayak with CF numbers. And good luck convincing the next person to transfer title and continue paying registration. Hopefully the registration paperwork doesn’t show up in your mailbox next year. Because that would suck.
But I did install a Minnkota trolling motor in my Hobie plug. And it did work pretty good. My problem is that I still feel compelled to bring the mirage drive as backup (I always have multiple paddles too). With the motor & battery & accessories & mirage drive it gets pretty heavy…which makes me uncomfortable.

Hell yeah!
Both dates are good. May 11 is closer to the normal date.

Did you guys just start fishing last year? Because that’s what it sounds like—please have some perspective. I’ve only been paying attention to RCG regs since ~1999. And guess what: the regs for seasons/depth/posession limits change every few years. That’s how the adaptive management system works. Would you prefer the alternative? A system that does not adapt to the constantly-changing population of various species.
So the question about returning to seasons without depth restrictions is stupid. Unless you have a time machine and you’re talking about the 1990s. Because that’s the last time we have unabated access to rockfish at all depths.
But thanks for lobbying for more bureaucratic restrictions and giving the commission additional fodder…the companies that produce fish decenders owe you guys a bunch of money.

Good deal. Is it the propdrive or the fin drive?

Dude nice score! Thanks for posting these reports btw…it’s definitely changed my thinking about halibut in the bay, in terms of winter opportunities! And my first big halibut was on a jack mack btw!

CA Regulations / Re: Halibut changes… permanent?

Does anybody truly believe the emergency action to reduce CA halibut take to 2 is permanent? Because it is NOT permanent. That sort of ends this entire discussion. If you’ve been fishing & paying attention for long enough, you will see bag limits/minimum sizes/methods of take/etc are constantly changing. I appreciate the adaptive management approach the dept has been using the last 15yrs. The opposite/alternative would be to keep the same regs each season, regardless of the fishery health. That sounds worse, right?

How about we petition for more CA halibut regions? Because the populations are totally different in various regions. We currently have 2 regions: south & north of Pt Conception. But the SF bay population has nothing to do with the halibut in SLO or Tomales or Humboldt. In fact, if they split them up into the same categories as the respective marine regions, it would make a lot of sense: Northern, Mendo, SF, Central, and Southern.

I think this is a great idea, but anglers will still potentially encounter quillbacks btwn 18-20 fathoms. They already have the coords for the 120ft line, so I would suggest that as the RCA instead of the 20-fathom line. Either way, I support it. Thank you.

Places to Launch and Camp / Re: Good Kayak Ocean Fishing With A Launch Ramp
« on: December 07, 2023, 11:57:12 AM »
You will need to paddle very far to reach the 50-fathom line from most harbors/ramps. Rockfish/lingcod/cabezon is closed inside 50 fathoms.

Nice butts dude! Solid limit for December.
