General Talk / Eating Halibut from San Francisco bay
« on: April 29, 2019, 09:57:04 PM »
I was reading about DFG guidelines for eating fish cut in the SF bay, and was wondering what the folks out there think about it?
I have a 7 yrs old daughter and it's recommended  for them to not have any/so little amount.
Thoughts?

General Fishing Tips / Working the kelp beds
« on: July 23, 2013, 12:48:48 AM »
So as indicated in previous post, I was thought to go in Capitola and "work the kelp bed".
Many use pretty heavy and long rods as they are in standing position (on a surf board) - I am seated in the Kayak and after few hours of casting it gets really hard if the gear is heavy ...
Any suggestion as to what to use?

I'm planning on starting around 6:30 tomorrow. In Capitola I usually work the kelp beds. I never really fished SC area. I see people getting Salmon in the area, so any tip would be appreciated.
Please PM if you'd like to join.

I check this site several times everyday … I got to know the folks through their posts and comments. I apologize in advance if this topic is not a fit for this forum. I felt I needed to “get it out of my chest” to a bunch of men I feel connected to.

I was married to one of the most powerful and wealthy woman in Berkeley. After a short love story, divorce was at the horizon. Since then, 5 years now, my new family and our 18 months baby are swamped with lawsuits and litigations ( removed fundraising website.....agarcia, out) What’s really fucked up in this amazing country (that I’m thankful to be a citizen of) is that it’s ok to file lawsuits against anyone – and if you’re the respondent, you’d better to have the $$$$ to defend yourself! If not, you’re screwed.

She has made sure I’m broke: she forced to sell my house and got the proceeds, got all my savings and now garnishing my salary … but we’re all here to learn and life is not a bed of roses. So I got to learn that “this is what it is”.

But what really gets to me was that she filed a restraining order, and last Friday the judge approved it for 5 years.
When a RO is issued, you lose your right to own any gun.  I’m a hunter and I don’t need to go on exotic trips – but hunting is my space of freedom. Which now is gone! Oh boy I feel down.

I’m just thinking how many of us, had to put up with such a distorted judicial system! It just takes “her” to say “I’m scared” and you’re in jail. Not to mention the shame and the feeling of being singled out by what’s supposed to make us feel safe, under the lable of Domestic Violence and restraining order.

General Talk / So much wind!
« on: May 21, 2013, 07:46:23 PM »
It's been more than 5 weeks now that this f...ing wind has been blowing all over the SF bay and HMB-Monterey, and consequently fishing has been lamentable.
Any1 has any insight into the origins and historical of this type of weather - beside the fact that this is the nature and it's what it is.

General Talk / Is it safe to consume mussels from HMB harbor?
« on: April 20, 2013, 02:10:01 PM »
I went out in HMB crabbing this am ... It was ok!
Then given the low tide, I picked up few mussels. I got some really big (5-6"), and I was wondering if it is safe to consume mussels from HMB harbor?
Thanks,

General Talk / Need a mentore!
« on: April 15, 2013, 12:26:39 PM »
I started kayak fishing 2 years ago ... I learned mostly on my own and by watching Youtube video. I never got anything bigger than a Sardin or Rockfish.

So I'd like to reach out to the folks and ask if anyone would be willing to have me following you and watching you fishing for Halibut or Salmon? I live in Peninsula and can follow you in the bay, HMB or Capitola/Santa Cruz. I just need to see how this is done and I'd appreciate any1 taking the time to educate me.

Cheers,

« on: July 02, 2012, 09:20:19 AM »
Yesterday I was fishing in Capitola fishing the Kelp beds, and I met "Jim" who gave me few very useful tips.
I'm not an experienced angler and would love find Jim and talk to him more ... Anyone knows him?
Here's Jim and his trophy yesterday. Thanks all.

General Fishing Tips / how do you predict swell?
« on: February 25, 2012, 07:14:48 PM »
I started fishing with Kayak last year, and I really love it! I started going out and tried HMB, Monterey bay and Capitola. Living in bay area, HMB and Capitola are closest locations, yet every time I go out in hmb I get sea sick! I tried everything but it happens again and again, to  a point I just dont go there any more.

Question: I know of websites (windfinder), where I can understand and see wind and waves forecast.  But how one can predict the swell?

Cheers,
