So many choices on braid out there. What have you had good luck with?
I’m thinking of a coated braid like Power Pro slick 8 or spider wire stealth. What are you running with good longevity for saltwater use?

I have been using Daiwa J-Braid 8-Strand Woven Round Braid Lines in 30 lbs & 50 lbs and am happy with their performance.

I personally hate coated braid. The flaking off annoys the heck out of me.

Currently I’m using Daiwa jbraid grand x8 on some reels and berkely x9 on some other reels.

I have more question about replacement interval.

How often are you all replacing your braid? I've had it begin to become heavily degraded within two seasons. This is after rinsing and storing in the garage. I believe that was just spyder wire.

I’m familiar with cutting off the top 25yds, more or less depending on your estimation, and tying it back on the spool with the line reversed using the newly cut end at the spool and the fresh previous line at the spool is now at the front.  If this is legit or not others can chime in... :smt006

I never like PowerPro - any version.  It tends to catch the wind and I think that's because it's not completely round.  FireLine served me well, but the color coating wears off and after half a season, the end in the water would be white.  I've used Daiwa Samurai but didn't find anything about it was better than the less expensive Daiwa J-Braid.

Daiwa J-Braid 8 strand.

Have always liked PowerPro, but tbh haven't tried the others suggested, so I think I'll try them out.  Did buy some Kastking braid, but the ink rubs off on everything, although it does seem strong enough.

I use PowerPro and it's fine. Although it does catch the wind and that's got me thinking...

I've been using Suffix and Power Pro Slick 8?

I can't tell the difference at all personally, I don't cast into the wind much, I haven't shore fished much since the pandemic, but I do know the tuna guys prefer Daiwa J braid over power pro. And it's always recommended at Fishery Supply In San Jose.

I have some reels with J braid and some with some cheapo Chinese braid, I forget the brand.  I got a big spool of it for a bargain.

They seem equally strong, I think the test ratings are probably accurate for both.   The cheapo does fade more, and is way rougher.  Have definitely gotten a few casting cuts from the cheapo while surf fishing and trying to cast hard, and the j braid doesn't really do that.  For dropping a line off the side of a yak I can't tell the difference.

People have varying tastes and preferences in their choice of braided line. I tend to favor the Japanese market braid since it seems to be a bit thinner and I'm able to spool more line on my reels.

For example, I've been using Seaguar Kureha x8 GrandMax in various weights all across my reels on my boating trips and it's been pretty good and I've had no complaints so far. For my kayak setup, most of my reels have 48lb, 0.285mm line. Equivalent Jbraid is 0.35mm for 50lb.

Here's the link to Amazon Jp for reference. https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Kureha-Line-Seagar-98-4-Colors/dp/B06WV83SRC/ref=sr_1_9?crid=1WQPUPT2ELORI&dchild=1&keywords=seaguar+pe+x8&qid=1631560162&sprefix=seaguar+%2Caps%2C167&sr=8-9

I have some of the waxy spider wire and im not a huge fan of it. Hasnt failed me yet but when I first spooled it, it didnt lay tight enough and my first snag dug into the reel super bad, maybe that was my fault. It hums in the water it just feels like it drags a lot.

Ive tested some of the cheap braids with a fish scale and they rarely can meet the line capacity, and if the color fades or dyes your thumb or reel that is a huge indicator of shitty line.

Power pro is what my Englund marine has available for my other reels and its been fine. Just snip a little and retie a mono/flouro topshot. I might look into a some of the nicer round braids people are recommending but I have 4 yr old power pro still going strong with my topshot replacement method.
