Joel, that's a heck of a fish. congrats.

plus an awesome blow by blow report. next time, for get about the bat, make fist and take that rouge fish out with one good blow. it really does works well.  and if you think the net is too small, (and you're sure it's a king) gaff it. it's legal.

Vaccuum Sealer: you can go to costco and get the FoodSaver by Tilla.  i got one a few years ago and it's still going strong. i think i have the model #1075. runs about $100.  well worth the price. i highly reccomend it!

again, congrats on you catch!

Joel,
that must have been one great show.  i'd paddle out there just to see the whale.

" (another reason why boaters should pass a test before getting keys to a boat - just like a car drivers license = just my opinion)  "

i don't think a test or licsence would do any good, have you seen the way some people drive? :smt018

Count me in. sounds like fun.

what a great day of NOTHING!  no butts, no stipers, and no salmon.  but WFO on friends, both new and old.

like polepole, i also made a few baits right outside the harbor. and those baits managed to get me a few quick hook ups of rockfish. so that was the end of the live bait portion of the program. the rest of the day was drifting frozen tray bait & squid  everywhrere from the 1 mile can to the orange bouy.  i caught mother earth a few times and had a few baits cleanly chomped in half, (where's that stinger treble hook when you need it).  i think the butts were out there, just smart enough to stay unhooked.

the best i could come in with was an embarrasing  couple of  lunker king fish, which i'm relieved were not allowed to be weighed in. where's the sport in that!

i'm looking forward to the another chance at the new kayak that'll be up for grabs at the next tourney next month.

see y'all then

Molbasser,  thanks for the up to the minute weather reports.  this morning's report is most encouraging!  especially since the monterey bouy is reporting rather snotty conditions:

Wind Direction (WDIR):    NW ( 320 deg true )
Wind Speed (WSPD):   15.5 kts
Wind Gust (GST):   17.5 kts
Wave Height (WVHT):   6.6 ft
Dominant Wave Period (DPD):   7 sec

i just hope calm seas pervail tomorrow moning.

there's a promising report on Coastside, 2 butts in less that an hour
http://www.coastsidefishingclub.com/drupal/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=186475&an=0&page=0#186475

according to the tide book, they were taken at the beginning of the incoming tide. i think i'm going to give it try this saturday; low tide is at 10am.

anyone else interested?

if we release all that we catch, what are we going to grill up afterwards?

not only am i not releasing any legal halibut or salmon,  but the mortality rate for a salmon released after it had been netted, handled, and them weighed before it was ever so gently released would be somewhere around ZERO.

no gaff, no bat.  you're a true minimalist. next you'll be posting that you just jumped in and wrestled it into submission.

awesome report.
