I think Sean mentioned this Kayak a while ago.  I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on getting one for a small kid, or any other recommendations.  I have been taking him in the tandem for a while and he is really interested in going in his own kayak.  I would also be happy for any more ideas of other yaks.

Thanks
Ed

My daughter Paige has one...great kiddie yak.  If you want so see a BIG improvement get them a Werner Sprite paddle. Paige now has Jelly's hand me down.  Having a paddle to scale seems to make more difference than the yak.  Paige has paddled several miles with this combo with no trouble.

I'm looking for a small yak for my wife occassionaly and for me on the river in the summer. I'm around 140# and 5'8". Wife is slightly smaller.
Do you think this will fit the bill or do you have a better suggestion?
 Thanks, summers coming soon!

The Kea is too small, its really sized for tiny kids.  He new MIni-X really is a great small fart around yak that is still fishable.

Thanks scwafish, No big stores to shop or compare around here and it's hard to imagine size while looking at a monitor!
 I'll check out the MINI-X

Sean I found a Ocean kayak Poco at a local shop.  He is selling it new for about 250 because it is a display.  It seems like it was the boat before the kea about the same dimensions.  I think I might pick it up.  I don't want to miss the chance to teach him while we live by the warm water.  I picked up one of the sprite paddles when I was in Monterey for a day, your right the paddle is great.
Thanks for the advice
Ed

Box, depending on your wife's intednded useage, the venus  might be a good choice in the Ocean kayak line.  smaller, lighter, but paddles well and is light for handling, etc.

Actually I've paddled one before and my first thought was that the Venus could be a decent boat for light river usage, although storage is somewhat limited.  Are you man enough to paddle a pink Venus?   :smt003  I'll see if I can get my hands on one for one our trips this summer and give it a go.

My wife has a Venus for paddling round lakes and slow moving rivers.  She likes it a lot, but has never tried fishing out of it.

BTW, there are 2 Venus, a 10 and an 11.  The 11 has an optional bow hatch which provides for more storage.  Careful with the weight ratings on these.  I'm heavier than the rating for the 10 and pushing the upper limit of the 11.

Anyone try the OK Frenzy? I'll be demo-ing one at the Russian River some time soon. I'll just need to figure out an anchor system that will fit the stearn....any suggestions?

I have alot of time in a frenzy, both stream and surf.  Very easy to catch waves in and you sit really deep in the boat, giving you hardcore stability and a little bit of hip brace even without straps.
Good for a afternoon creek drift too. It was along time ago when there werent alot of options in this style except O.K. but I dont think it would ever be a bad purchase.
