Stealth / Re: Stealth transport

Well I was thinking of getting a new paddle but have needed new cradles for longer. Just ordered a set based on all you all's recommendation. I'm looking forward to being secure and scuff free.

I usually add a bow and stern tie down as well, any of you guys using this rack do this as an extra precaution or is it overkill?
I run front and rear lines just as added protection/peace of mind -- it doesn't really add any setup time.

Cheers,
Brad

I'll second a recommendation for the lockracks -- I get almost zero movement on the kayak. I mounted them on the t-track on my hullavators and it is rock solid. For my 2022 outback it has to ride bottom up to fit, but I prefer that anyway. I'll leave it to Moo and Eddie on how they fit the narrower Stealths but I've been super happy with them.

Brad

General Fishing Tips / Re: Kill Bag Recommendations?
« on: May 15, 2024, 07:15:29 AM »
In order to keep fish as fresh as possible my normal routine was to keep fish live on the clip, bleed them when heading in, and right onto ice after landing.

Since I was flipped out of my kayak last week at Shelter Cove ( https://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=101746.225 ) when a sea lion grabbed my fish I have decided to change my method. The only place for a kill bag is in the back, and that means that I have to give up on carrying a crate. Not having the crate eliminates 4 rod holders which is another issue.

The recommended kill bags in this thread are no longer available so looking for current recommendations. My kayak is an Eddyline Caribbean 14.
Look at AlexB's avatar - I run my taco-style kill bag the same way between my seat back and my box in the rear compartment. The built in rod holders on my outback are behind the kill bag and still accessible (although tough to see without an extension) and my crate is accessible as well. The main issue would be if it would interfere with your paddle stroke. Cheers, Brad

This is what they appear on my FF...
That's pretty much the image I get on my Humminbird Helix.

General Talk / Re: I've Gone Strapless

I thought it looked a little short. My thought too if it was too short that you could find a tube that would work. Looks like a great setup overall - thanks for the info.

Cheers,
Brad

Interesting setup. Do you think you could use it like the Thule Outrigger or Yakima Boatloader Evo to help in loading the boat? Extend the outside bar/rack all the way, lean the nose of the kayak  onto it and then lift the rear up? I couldn't tell how far out it can extend.

Cheers,
Brad

I've tried it but the arm was not long enough but I've seen some on using a long bar by inserting where the arms go it and using it as a assist. I'll be looking for a metal bar that's going to fit.

Try marine goop - I've had good luck with it in the past.

Some have made custom crank arms out of aluminum billet stock -- I think Nowhereman did this. It might be quicker than waiting on the parts to come into stock. Good luck!

The kayak launch area and all the parking on that side of the marina is currently off limits while they are doing construction. There is public parking in a gravel lot on the the other side by the docks. More info here - https://www.ssf.net/departments/parks-recreation/parks-recreation-facility-projects/oyster-point-2c

Water was milk chocolate and 54 degrees. Very little bait or bird activity and no biters.

How’d I miss you Eddie? Been checking from bridgeway to clipper since 6:30 for nada. One guy had about 15 he got first thing at Clipper then nothing since. Talked to 4 boaters and they had one between all them.

to each their own. I have no interest in motorizing, but don't hold it against those that do. I will say that I prefer they go electric instead of gas powered  though to avoid the noise pollution and the smell of the exhaust.

Why not lay up a band of fiberglass with resin where the collar will go, let it set up and then sand down to the diameter you need? The band will add a little strength to the area around the collar and you should be able to get a nice, tight fit. Just a thought.

As others have said make sure you've been feeding it regularly leading up to the planned breadmaking session so it is good and active. If temp is an issue, your oven with the light on makes for a nice and warm proofing box.

Places to Launch and Camp / Re: Good Kayak Ocean Fishing With A Launch Ramp
« on: December 07, 2023, 08:10:27 AM »
There's a ramp on the bay side at Doran in Bodega Bay - camp and launch from there. Miller's launch on Tomales as well.
Cheers,
Brad
