Can’t make it this year.  I’m on a cruise and won’t return until the 19.  No way to get payment and registration to you by cut off date.

Phooey!   :smt005

Please call me up, and we can make it happen.   :smt001

General Fishing Tips / Re: How many of you have 2-rod stamp?
« Last post by essrigr on Today at 06:30:57 PM »
Hmmm, the wife and I have a two rod license, mostly for crabbing with snares off the beach. I was always told, casting off the beach you need the two rod license for two rods and even fishing off a kayak, you need the two rod license in the open ocean. I have heard some people are getting a commercial license to use multiple rods in the bay and open ocean, to have a no limit on the catch. Can anyone comment on this please, enquiring minds want to know, please educate, R.

Lol! I guess I'm in the minority. When I'm out fishing, it's for the peace and quiet. Someone once called it water therapy or fishing Zen. Having two fish on just makes me too anxious and impatient. Catching for me is secondary. At least this is what I have been telling myself (skunked 3 out of 4 last trips).

Can't think of a thicker being flexible,  so warm or comfy?

SF Bay and San Pablo Bay both only allow one rod.  Ocean allows as many as you want (no stamp required!) until you start fishing for rockfish/lingcods, then it becomes one rod only.  Up-River from the Carquinez Bridge, and most lakes/rivers allow two rods, with the stamp.

I mostly troll from the kayak.  If it is legal for me to troll with two rods, I do.  Stripers and trout.  In the ocean, I think it would be more difficult to not get tangled, but in the delta or in a lake, it isn't too bad.  When I hook a fish, I give a few extra pedal strokes, then gently turn the kayak towards the side that got hooked up.  Sometimes I will keep pedaling and reel in the other rod, but only if I think it will get tangled, which really only happens if I drift back down towards the lure.

I will also use the second rod if just bait fishing, either anchored in the kayak or boat, or from shore.  Or, have one with bait and casting a lure with the other.  Just depends on the species/day/location.
