Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: BFS Trout Setups - worth the expense?
« on: December 12, 2023, 09:55:17 AM »
I bought a shit ton of BFS stuff after watching those YB videos in the last three years. The problem is, I don't have any opportunity to use those gears because I'm nowhere near any fishery that can benefit from BFS fishing. I can tell you that the Shimano Curado BFS does not cast any further than the Chinese BFS reels, but the Shimano feels the most solid in your hand. I literally have over a hundred BFS hard jerk bait and never caught a fish with them. BFS fishing is just another money pit to me. Unless you know where you're gonna use BFS gear, you'll probably never end up using them ;) But if you have the itch to try them out, why not.
Btw, I just came back from Japan and picked up a couple of electric reels. That's another money pit. I hope I get some use out of them  :smt003

This post just summed up my 40 years of fishing experience. :smt003

Slightly off topic but I used to fish a lot of ultra small baits for bluegill and bass.  Tiny rattle traps, rapalas etc. I started throwing some of the smaller stuff again on tbe delta last year when the big baits were not producing. Still lots of fun.

You need to be really careful...somehow I bought a bunch of fishing line I'm pretty sure I didn't need. What happened! :smt006

Looks like it got us both…..I couldn’t pass up the soft steel floro lol. Well that and the two spinning reels I somehow needed but don’t really need  :smt044

Barely had enough willpower to pass on the Citrix 360…..that’s a heck of a deal.

Ironic that their aoy competition advertises the challenge of testing your  knowledge of different waters, rules and regulations….I have no confidence that the honor system would be honored with that group.

You can use a plate to cut butter too but it just ain’t right….. nothing to do with budgets……everything to do with newbcakes instantly trying to monetize their new hobby without knowing wtf they’re doing.

…..I find it more cringey that he put a spinning reel on a trigger gripped casting rod and fished it upside down.

Throwing topwater and swimbaits for monster peacocks in tbe amazon has been on my list since I was a kid. I was hoping to do this trip in 2024 but it’s looking like 2025 may be the year. Who did you book through? Any advice on timing, gear etc?

……boats are expensive……I’d just buy the appropriate ropes and be confident that my boats not getting fkd up every time the wind blows.
