RTM / RTM Tempo vs DAG MidWay
« on: February 02, 2017, 03:05:39 PM »
Dear all!

I planning to buy my second kayak and I narrowed down my options to DAG MidWay and RTM Tempo. I plan to use it almost exclusively during warm days in summer and on sea and I don't have a need for big storage space. Please, could someone answer the following questions or help me decide in general? I'm especially interested in:

- Tracking: which kayak maintains straight line forward more easily? I read that MidWay is somewhat more susceptible to waves and wind than Tempo, is it true? When the water surface is calm, how to they compare? When it is not calm, how to they compare, with respect to tracking?

- Front hatch: apparently Tempo does not have water-sealed bulkhead, whereas MidWay does. I read that some people had to beach Tempo, after they did not close the lid properly. How dangerous is this anyway? I was under impression that these kind of kayaks are meant to be "unsinkable".

- Wet ride: I'm planning to use a seat, how wet is the ride going to be? I read that MidWay has always tiny bit of water in the sitting area, is it true? I'm almost 200lbs (90kg), am I too heavy for MidWay? What about Tempo, is the sitting generally more dry than in MidWay? I imagine that the foot wells in Tempo are most of the time filled with water, as the sink holes are in just one pair of the wells?

- Speed: this is a bit difficult to quantify I know but can someone perhaps comment on how fast and how far I will get given the same amount of effort?

- Comfort: I read that Tempo is very comfortable, true? What about MidWay?

- Stability: I'm generally not too much worried about the supposedly greater tippiness of MidWay, but should I be? If some small motor boat goes by, will it cause any problems? Yes, that depends on my skill I guess, just asking...

If you have any more comparison or comments I would be very grateful if you could post them as well.

Thank you!
