We are calling it "the Gauntlet".

The team is super paranoid about weight, so we attempted to create a lighter alternative to bolting on more metal on the boat for a drift system.
The boom changes positions (180) when you dont want the anchor hanging out there.
The elavation and extension keeps it off of the water and the kayak when youre on the move.
It has been tested in currents and we are pleased with its performance, but there is still improvements to be made.
This is only the first evolution and we have already designed the next but the materials have not yet arrived.
more to follow. very exciting.

vanitymount 4 is also underway.  not as exciting

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

That looks pretty good to me Terry.  How is it attached to your kayak?  Have you thought about pulleys instead of the metal eyes?

That for sure is some new action. Very creative! Looking forward to the newer versions and also the new vanity mount for the cam.

Very Cool!!   Innovative and Simple..........as it should be.  Can't wait to see how it evolves.

That is DOPE! I saw one like that before, but it was white. Does it add much weight, like......would you feel a difference if you had to drag your kayak, saw, 200 yeards yp a hill and over railroad tracks?  :smt044

Great idea, I like it!
Looks like it needs a handle...  :beer3

We will do something to lessen the friction of the eyebolts. I was surpised at how much pressure was placed on the Gauntlet when I was bringing up the anchor. A pulley system is one of the routes pondered though weight paranoia might require plastic pulleys.
We attached it with the 2 bolts/washers that were used to hold the handle on. Its removable and we didnt have to drill anymore holes in the boat. I noticed that in stronger currents or when bringing up the anchor in a hurry, that there was some pressure placed on the plastic. Evolution 2 will hopefully have solved this problem. It needs a little stronger backbone and a wider foundation that takes off some of the pressure on the yak plastic.

I think it was lighter when it was white and thankfully so when you arrive at one of the worst take outs in the 707. Cant believe you guys call that a take out. still, it was a blast and will do it again.

Looks VERY cool. I am just pissed I didn't think of it!!  :smt044
I think that the higher the gauntlet and the farther out the weight is from the base the more stress it will put on the base. I don't think that pulleys would add too much weight to make a difference.
Great idea. I applaud you.

I think's you just solved my problem for my Tarpon 120. It has a rudder and by using your configuration then extending at the anchor end  I might just be able to keep my rudder system on it then still use it for a drift boat. Did you experiment with a small pulley inside the pvc itself?

To tell the truth, this was thrown together at the hardware store on the afternoon before I had the opportunity to test it on a river. But pulley tests are at the top of a list.

The think tank is also pondering an improved version of the gauntlet for Tarponriders.
Imagine that.
It seems that it could come off of a platform in the tankwell.  But with a rudder system, it would have to be very tall and the boom even longer than the current design. If it was expected hold a 10#+ anchor in current, it would need some additional support. work in progress.
so many projects.

Terry with all the room you have in that tube you could use a 2 and a 1 wheel pulley system ala block and tackle and it would be a breeze to pull your anchor.
