General Talk / Marin Rod and Gun Launch

Dumb question. When y’all launch from here, do you go under the Richmond Bridge? Is it freaky?

General Talk / Loch Lomond 5-31-2021

Went kayaking for pleasure with the fam. Passed a few kayak fisher folk. One landed three stripers, one hooked up with a few shaker halis. Lots of bait and a few bust ups on the way out to the Marin Islands.

General Talk / San Quentin Launch
« on: May 29, 2021, 08:59:27 AM »
Did an initial scout of the San Quentin launch site. Doesn’t look too bad getting to the water. Tide was about -1.6 when I visited. Anyone know if there’s a mud walk in store if you come back at low tide? Looked like the case but I wasn’t prepared to walk out there and get a real-time sample this AM.

General Talk / JMJ Wetsuits?
« on: April 20, 2021, 11:39:35 AM »
I just purchased a 5 MM Farmer John wetsuit from JMJ because they offer the ability to add relief zippers - the only wetsuit maker that I could find that does this at what seems like a reasonable price. My other wetsuits w/o the relief zipper were becoming a safety concern...  I'd love to know what to look out for, what's good about these suits, and what's not good about these suits. I did a quick search to see if anyone has commented on them before, but nada. If anyone has experience with these wetsuits, would you mind adding feedback here?

General Talk / Bilge Pump with Clips
« on: January 13, 2021, 03:10:09 PM »
Hi All - looking for a bilge pump with clips (manual obviously) so I can attach it inside the hull of the Revo. I've looked in all the expected places: ACK, Amazon, etc. It's hard to know what's good. I would prefer that the clips not require screwing into the kayak. While I've successfully drilled into the yak - I really hate it. Thanks for any recommendations ahead of time.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Skunked at Tomales
« on: July 18, 2020, 04:29:22 PM »
Launched at Tomales today and worked Tom’s point to Pelican Point for eight hours. No buts, no stripped bass.  I did manage to hook into an Angel Shark. Skunked two weeks in a row. Gotta be doing something wrong. If you got hints...

For Sale / GONE Free J-Hook Kayak Storage - Wall Mount
« on: March 22, 2020, 04:47:59 PM »
Hi All - if you would like a pair of J hooks to store your kayak on a wall or fence, I have a pair that you can pick up for free. I am in South Novato. Private message me if you are interested. They were on my fence for about a year outside. One of the screws will need to be replaced as it is stripped.

General Talk / Lowrance Hook2 - 5" or 7" - Hobie Revolution 13
« on: March 16, 2020, 09:25:05 PM »
For those of you that have Hook2s on their Hobie Revo 13's - did you get the 5" or the 7"? Is the 7" too big? Does the 7" event fit? Asking for a friend.

General Talk / Paradise Beach, Tiburon - Landing at Low Tide
« on: February 29, 2020, 02:34:42 PM »
I am thinking about going out from Paradise Beach in Tiburon tomorrow morning. When I come it will be low tide. Anyone have experience landing here at low tide? I'm trying to avoid a slog through stinky, soft, mucky, mud.

Kayaks / California Canoe and Kayak Oakland - Kayak Demo
« on: November 28, 2019, 09:28:50 PM »
Has anybody had experience demoing kayaks at California Canoe and Kayak?
I want to demo the Revo 13 and the Outback - should I expect them to have these in stock?
Or, do I need to tell them ahead of time what i want to demo and then wait until they get them in?

Thanks for any info ahead of time! Would be good to know what to expect and how your experiences have been.

Hobie Kayaks / Hobie Outback Vs. Revo 16
« on: November 17, 2019, 10:16:54 PM »
I know, I know - this conversation again...but with a twist! Outback vs. Revo.

Next year I am going to buy a new fishing kayak and the two I am considering are the Hobie Outback and the Hobie Revo (title says it all). I would love some feedback from folks that have either.  I've listed some of my questions below.

Outback questions:

1. Does the Outback handle surf launches well?
2. Given that the Outback weighs about 20 lbs more, fully loaded, is it too slow/hard to handle when it is choppy and/or the current is strong?
3. Is the Outback really difficult to load (I have a Toyota Tacoma - I think I can just put it on the bed and use and extender, but I would love to put it on the roof rack)?
4. Is the 2019 Outback "spray over the bow" issue real?
5. Does the 2019 Outback really "take on water" when the chop is high?

Revo questions:

1. Is the Revo stable?
2. Is the Revo easier to surf launch than the Outback (I'm looking at you MooMooOutdoors and TLA... I've seen those videos)?
3. Does the Revo require a lot of modification (esp compared to the Outback...)?
4. How does the Revo handle in the current and wind (when compared to the Outback)?
5. Is there enough room on the Revo given that it is 27" versus 34" for the Outback for all the crap we need to fish?

Ok, I think that's enough to get started. Thanks for any details ya'll provide. I'll be grateful when I fork over 2-3K for all of the comments that make me feel better one way or the other.. I'll at least know I've done my due diligence.

At the end of the day, I know there will be blood on the decks with either one - and I'm using a sit kayak now that I can't take out of Tomales Bay.

General Talk / Ever had anything stolen from a game clip?
« on: October 13, 2019, 12:00:59 PM »
Quick question - has anyone every had a shark, seal, or sea lion pull your catch off of your game clip? I just started Kayak fishing this summer and used a game clip on the few trips I took without problems, but I am paranoid.  Seems like trailing blood in the bay and ocean would be a bad idea.

Introductions / Hello!
« on: October 08, 2019, 03:28:49 PM »
Hi fellow kayak anglers! I'm excited to join this forum. I found this community just at the season's end. Better late than never.

I just started the kayak angling journey this summer. I caught my first flatty on Tomales Bay this summer. It was awesome, needless to say. I am using a sit in kayak right now, but I will trade up to a sit on top Hobie drive based yak this winter.

I haven't had the opportunity to target rockfish or lingcod from a kayak. Next on the list.  Hoping to fill up the freezer in the spring and summer next year.

Speaking of next season, I'll be going out most weekends and will be looking for fellow yakers to join. I live in Marin and am happy to hit the water early in the morning on most Fridays and Saturdays.

Looking forward to meeting every one. Tight lines and enjoy the rest of the season.

Feel free to contact me if you're headed out in Marin or SF if you're headed out and you need a partner.
