Just saw an ad for this reel that has a option to send data via bluetooth to your phone.  Now you can REALLY geek out on your casting and have data to prove it!  :smt005

Man, what do they think of next?  Reel that can tell you how big the fish is while you reel it in?  :smt004

I'm surprised Apple hadn't trademarked the name, iREEL.

Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

I'm really surprised that the fish finders haven't started adding bluetooth for data offload yet.

I thought some had wi-fi for that purpose?  Connect back at your house and populate the cloud...

my garmin has wifi and an app. maps are accessible and able to be modified on the app, Waypoints can be added, removed, Routes planned, and even quickdraw and community data added. Its very nice because i can use my phone to plan things out, then when it connects in the morning when I turn everything on, the data is shared between devices by the time I'm in the water.

I have a GPSMAP 742SX

I guess I have seen it on super high end ones, as a way to communicate with all your other devices.  I guess I meant more of a stop adding a SD card slot, and just use bluetooth.  But I am now curious about the Garmin Wifi, I'll check it out. I built a way to sync my SD card every time I get off the water, just have to remove the card, and slot into my Raspbery Pi, and it does a backup and merge of all the new data.  But if I could just transmit via BT it would be even easier!

Could be fun to bring out and have a casting competition at an event.

Which unit do you have now?

I have the base Striker 4, which doesn't even have a SD card slot, haha.  The only feature I really wished it had was overlay plotting - so I could plot a line/box/circle around areas I want to target.  It has GPS, but only displays ownship and waypoints.  So, useful for crabbing or marking a hookup, not so much for plotting an area or reef ahead of time.

I've been itching to upgrade to the Striker 4cv to get the better sonar display and sonar charting feature, but if I could find a different unit for less than about $400 that allows me to plot shapes/overlays, I would jump on that one.  All of the ones I've seen with that capability require the whole chartplottting feature, which then makes the unit more expensive than I am willing lose overboard, haha.

Could make an element for AOTY - longest cast that lands a fish.
