General Talk / Hooked a Big One off Hwy. 37
« on: December 21, 2012, 11:29:05 PM »
My tow truck driver friend, awoke me this morning. He said my assistance was needed with a tow, last night a car went into the slough, (please bring your kayak) only the rear of the trunk lid was still above water. The CHP said both occupants were able to swim to safety, they were very lucky that the electric windows still operated. Upon arriving I launched the Hobie Sport and attempted to hook onto something underneath the rear end. The kayak fishing attempt failed. I had my waders and PFD on, so a wading I go. The fishing pole of the day was a ten foot 1/2" conduit with a tow hook and chain taped to it. I wrapped a bungee cord tightly so the hook would stay upright likewise at the handle end. My first hookup netted the bumper and Styrofoam. The second grab pulled off the left spring. I'm catching this car one part at a time. Each attempt requires a reentry (don't even want to be near the chain if it were it to snap off under tension) it's real tough wading, the water is above the waist and the gooey mud is above my knees. This Chevy is a FWD has very little to hook on to in the rear end. Then on the Hail Mary attempt, I got a solid hookup. Not gonna land this one, not without an assist. Cast of characters; Martin with the truck (this Martin don't brew) and Michael (the owner) at his autobody/law office and one really cool CHP.

I married well! Pam's, Brother sprung for a cabin including the private park near the Sunnyside Restaurant. I got to fish for a short while nearly every day while there. Scored just one Mack & three Kokes, all were caught on corn tipped Wedding Rings behind a flasher off the downrigger. Roughster joined me on Sat. We got to enjoy a fun family vacation.
