I only caught a dozen squid. I was fishing next to Diehard, who caught four times more than I did.
I sure need practice locating them and catching them. Paul 4
Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Monterey - 5/14/2024 Tuesday« on: May 13, 2024, 08:09:27 PM »I was out Saturday and have a waaay different report there was plenty of squid. I grabbed around 50 in a half hour or so and went fishing. There’s patches of squid from the coast guard beach to the red can. Most of it is suspended 30-70ft down. I found it most abundant on Saturday just before the aquarium in 115ft of water but it moves around of course. You will have much more success if you leave your squid jig still for 3-4 seconds after it’s at the right depth before lifting up. Lifting up and down repeatedly is not the way to do it, let it sit for a few seconds before lifting. Also, white glow beads, in my opinion, work better than green. Coyote bait and tackle has these sweet finesse squid jigs made by p-line for 10 bucks and they open at 6am it might be worth stopping by on the way down it’s in south San Jose/Morgan hill. Hope this helps Hi Todd Thank you again for your tips. I will definitely try your technique. Let you know tomorrow how I did. I still need to chase you around one day see the Butt King in action. CA Regulations / Re: How to Import 20FA and 50FA Boundary Line for Rockfish in CA 2024 to Fish Finder« on: May 05, 2024, 03:27:19 PM »Thanks for putting this together Paul and thanks Al for making the GPX files. You might try to import 20FA Navionic file. My old Hook worked for this file only. Also, remove "Trail 001" before you start. It might create Trail 001. When it works properly, you should see 239 points. Paul 13

CA Regulations / Re: How to Import 20FA and 50FA Boundary Line for Rockfish in CA 2024 to Fish Finder« on: May 05, 2024, 06:49:06 AM »Great instructions Paul! If anyone is able to help others with this process at Shelter Cove I know a couple people that could use help as well. Thank you, you did all the difficult work. I started carrying a MicroSD card with the GPX files to help other fishermen. One of my friends from Fort Brag asked me to install it for him, and I will do that on my way to the Russian Gulch this Friday. Paul 15
CA Regulations / Re: How to Import 20FA and 50FA Boundary Line for Rockfish in CA 2024 to Fish Finder« on: May 05, 2024, 06:37:42 AM »If we have a FF with an option to incorporate the 20 and/or 50 fathom file, will it be a safe assumption to catch RF within the depth <120 feet? I am slightly confused by your question. I will assume that you can't import the files. It will be based on your location. If you are sitting on a large pinnacle, you might be well below 120 ft but might be outside of the 20 FA line. Two or three 20FA waypoints will cover most kayak fishing spots, and you can manually input these waypoints into your fish finder. MooMoo is doing this way. Also, you might want to use your phone apps to verify your locations, like Google Maps, Google Earth, Navionics, and Locus Map. If you need any help, just let me know, Sonny. Paul |
